Ogre Team for 110 Res (LRB6) (Waterbowl)

Post by Barney the Lurker »

I've decided to go Ogre for a bit of a stunty challenge. I thought I had made up my mind, but a chat last night had made me think again. What are your Opinion son the following rosters:

4 Ogre
4 RR
1 Apo
10 Snots

3 Ogre
Brick & Grotty
3 RR
9 Snots

5 Ogre
3 RR
9 Snots

Originally was going with 4 ogres, then the Brick list, but know quite fancy 5 Ogres.

Skills:

The big choice I have really is: 2 Blocking Ogres or an AG3 one??

what are peoples opinions on either? The other skill will probably be a mix of guard and break tackle.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hey Barney

I think I'd favour the 5 ogre line-up. What about taking an AG4 snot to increase chances of picking up the ball in TZ and also landing once tossed?

I took HMP on a snot last year and it got me a couple of TDs. Break Tackle on all the ogres, maybe one Strong Arm one instead, especially if you go with an AG4 snot - makes TTM viable!

I'd favour a surehands ogre over an AG3 ogre. Having some sort of leader on the team is probably better than having a blocker too.

I'd definately favour break tackle over guard... the main advantage ogres teams have is mobility and I'm not sure exactly how useful the guard would be. Seems like guard isnt enough to stop the snots from being crushed and the other ogres dont really need the assistance anyway. Scrappa, Nobbla, Brick & Grotty could all be useful but they suffer (badly) from loner.

Edit after a bit more thought:

With ogres as they are you'll need plenty of luck whatever your plan is (although you'd better have a plan). Personally I'd almost be very tempted to just attempt to knock the shit out of any team you meet and then hope you win by default. I'm thinking...

5 Ogres - 700k
10 Snotlings - 200k
Nobbla - 100k
RR - 70k
FF3 - 30k

One snotling gets leader, one ogre gets surehands, the other four ogres pickup a mix of guard, BT, and piling on.... although more piling on than anything else. The idea is that 4 ogres with piling on and the chainsaw can probably cause an awful lot of grief quite quickly and you should have enough reserves to carry you into the second half even with some fouls. Hopefully the surehands ogre can pick it up at some point and with surehands and St5 he isnt going to be dropping it in a hurry. If all goes well you shouldnt have to worry about elves (normally an instant loss for ogres) or a difficult defence since everything will be pulped by then :D

I vote for 5 Ogres as well.

And for one ogre with block - having a reliable (if one can say that 'bout an ogre) blitzer makes such a difference.
And one with surehands (vs. fast teams).

I would include one snot with divingtackle.

Cheers for the help guys. Think 5 Ogres is a go.

Food for thought on the skills. I quite like the sure hands Ogre idea. Currently thinking:
Sure Hands Ogre
2x Break Tackles
2x Stand Firm - for help on defense
Snot with?? thinking of Leader for the extra reroll.

I'm a firm believer that having a plan is just plain Cheating

Thanks for your help guys. I think I'm gonna go with:

5 Ogres
9 Snots
3 RR

2x Block
2x Break Tackle
1x Undecided (prob BT again)
1x Sprint Snot

First time using Ogres for a while so decided to play safe with the double block.

sprint surprises me. I don't consider it as strong as surefeet or divingtackle. rest is fine. good luck !! :)

I only took it thinking with Mv 5 it can be hard to get the one turner.

I think DT is a bit poor if there's only one of them. Sure feet is good though, might have to toss a coin to decide!

I think the important thing about DT is it gives them some sort of a tacklezone presence. Remember that titchy means you cause dodges but dont count towards tacklezone modifiers.

One DT is poor. Much better in leagues than tourneys.
