150 (!) Slann for Res.

Post by Nestyr »

Hi all,

I've got a 150 TR resurrection tournament in a month or so, and thought I'd give the Slann a go.

Rules are as follows:
  • 1,500,000 gcs;
    Two players can have a double increase for 30,000 gcs;
    Any player can have a normal skill increase for 20,000 gcs;
    No player can have more than one skill increase;
    No special play cards, but Star Players are OK;
    No stat increases.
So I thought I'd try this:
  • . 2 x Blitzers w/ Guard (130K ea);
    . 1 x Catcher w/ Dodge (100K);
    . 2 x Catchers w/ Guard (110K ea);
    . 1 x Catcher w/ Kick-off Return (100K);
    . 2 x Linemen w/ Wrestle (80K ea);
    . 2 x Linemen w/ Block (80K ea);
    . 1 x Lineman w/ Kick (80K);
    . 1 x Kroxigor w/Guard (160K);
    . 4 x Re-rolls (200K);
    . 1 x Fan Factor (10K);
    . 1 x Apothecary (50K).
Total: 1,500,000

The rationale being as follows:

Offense
. The "Kick-off Return" Catcher will be the ball retriever, who will get the ball to the Catcher with "Dodge", who will be the ball carrier.
. The two Blitzers and two Catchers with "Guard" will be the cage for the ball carrier.
. The two "Wrestle" Linemen and the Kroxigor will have LOS duty.
. The two "Block" Linemen will be there to make the hole for the cage to pour through.

Defence
. The Lineman with "Kick" will be doing the kicking, obviously.
. The players for the cage will still be on the field, for turnovers for a fast score.
. The LOS remains the same.
. Which leaves one Lineman with "Block" as a safety, along with the Kicker.

The idea being to make fast touchdowns on offence, and look for quick turnovers on defence, to make more fast touchdowns.

I'm toying with changing "Block" to "Tackle" on those Linemen - almost as effective on offence, and certainly more effective on defence.

Also, I might use one of the "Wrestle" Lineman as an attacker on defence, to turn the ball over.

Comments, suggestions, opinions?

Cheers,

Nestyr

Nestyr - some suggestions (I have not played Slann in a tourney yet). The format ought to favour the Slann, I think.

Why not take 5 (or even 6) re-rolls? RR are the heart of the Slann.

With only 1 Dodge Catcher, and 4 RR, your mobility is much reduced, especially your ability to retrieve a spilled ball.

The 3 Catchers without Dodge, Block or Wrestle will be very easily consigned to the dugout by your opponent.

Overall, I suggest there is too much skill specialisation. I suggest more "plain vanilla", for example 3 or 4 Catchers with Dodge, lots of Linos with Wrestle (forget Block - Wrestle Linos are your ball hunters). Kick is good, of course.

Apoth looks good, but isn't a RR better?

Why not give Block to the Krox, if you take him? Avoids turnovers, will get you CAS, and makes him a better roadblock.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Smeborg,

All good ideas. I'll think on this and see what I can come up with.

Thanks MC,

How do you propose to use this team on offence and defence?
