Woodies @ 1.1 mil

Post by Zoglug »

Im contemplating Woodies for the world cup. Its a 1.1 mil tourney but i cant seem to settle on a roster. At the moment im considering:

1 x Treeman - 120k
2 x Wardancer - 240k
3 x Catcher - 270k
1 x Thrower - 90k
4 x Line Elf - 280k
2 x Re-roll

It seems risk, only 11 players and no apo, 3 of them are only str 2 as well, so it seems a tad weak (as weak as Woodies can be!!!). So i was wondering what peoples thoughts were. Should i drop the tree for another lino meaning i can fit in the apo as well? 12 players seems impossible and losing the tree is the only logical way to get in the apo, but then i feel i lose something from the LOS.

Skill wise, im thinking:

Day 1 - Leader Thrower, Frenzy Dancer, Strip Ball Dancer
Day 2 - Guard Catcher, Dodge Lino
Day 3 - Block Tree, Dodge Lino or Block Catcher

Again, thought on these would be great as ive never played Wood Elves before!

I really don't think I could cope with only two re-rolls in total! 3 isn't enough when I'm playing!

I think I've decided to leave the tree at home! The apo is just too valuable to keep a dancer about. Now the question is 2 catchers or 3? Rosters are pretty much the same just 2 catchers & 6 lino or 3 catchers and 5 lino! Both include 2 dancers and a throw.

So which option would you run with? The extra square of movement plus dodge, or go with the are 3 lino?

Ditch the Tree and get another Line + another reroll.

Seen the line up before. Not bad, but I had a way of knocking it to pieces.

Your build is very similar to mine, but I'm making sure to have 3 catchers.

I like having the extra dodge around.

I think wrestle line are better.

The last tournee I went in I had:

2 Wardancers with Tackle
1 Catcher
1 Thrower with safe throw
7 Line with 3 of them with wrestle.
2 Rerolls
and some coaching staff

If I was to do it again I would remove the safe throw for a leader reroll.

BTW the 2 tackle dancers are for squaring up to other woodies, their elves are not as good as yours and also lizardmen. Where you can gleefully squash skinks.

I have seen 1 Frenzy and 1 Strip Ball dancer.

2 dancers with tackle?

Isn't that overkill?

Definitely prefer 1 tackle and 1 strip dancer! The main issue now is 2 catchers or 3! The extra dodge is nice....but 3 astr 2 players may be a killer.

What's your playstyle with wood elves? Are you cautious?

Well, here's where the fun starts, I've only ever played 1 game with woodies! I played the first half conservatively (i received) and thought is played the perfect drive but had left a 4+ dodge and 1d block on the carrier! So went in 1-0 down. Second half I played a lot more aggressively and managed to turn him over. On defense again, I was very aggressive, got the ball free but those pesky nos catchers got away!

So in all honesty, I'm probably going to adopt an aggressive playstyle for the world cup! As it worked to an extent for me!

In that case, ditch the tree, take an extra reroll.

You'll need it for those leaps.

Have you read the 2 play books.

1 orthodox and the other unorthodox. The latter is aggressive.

BTW I don't think 2 tackle dancers is over kill. It's blitz domination... you know some schmuck is going to take a catcher with block... plus tackle works passively.

I remember blitzing one stunty and then standing next to another. In one case the stuntys made a rally by pushing back one WD, grabbing the ball (used a reroll) screaming through another WD's Tackle Zone only to fail a dodge. I have dodge was proudly announced with a lot of shaking the head at the other end of the table - Tackle, no you don't. The little rally ended with WE domination!

BTW I have also been through 32 turns over 2 games not being able to injuy a stunty. Kid not, knock 'em down like no ones business... injuries - none, couldn't believe it, never mind.

I stopped giving Tackle to elf blitzer types when lrb 5 came out. Frenzy is equally good for knocking down + helps against every team + makes offence and defence a lot easier as your opponent now needs to watch the sidelines.

Wrestle helps taking down blodgers as well (take it on linemen) and if that catcher doesn't have sure hands my strip ball wardancer can take care of him.
