Necro at the World Cup

Post by Dr. Von Richten »

Cross posted, slightly updated with new considerations from the BBT forum

Hi all,

Unexpectedly, it seems I'm playing at the World Cup here in Amsterdam in two weeks. I'll be playing Necro, probably not the best team for this tournament, but fun anyway.

So, though I may face any of you across the table, care to give some honest advice?

For roster TV110 I was thinking:

2x Werewolf
1x Flesh Golem
2x Wight
2x Ghoul
5x Zombie
3x Reroll
2x Fan Factor

The other option would be to exchange a ghoul and a Zombie for a Flesh Golem, but that would leave me with 11 players, and the FG's, while nice, are basically just super zombies, and not as important for scoring TD's as ghouls are.

For skills: 1st round (3 normal skills): block on both Werewolfs, Block on one Ghoul, 2nd round (3 normal or 1 normal & 1 double): Block on the other Ghoul, Guard on both wights, 3rd round (3 normal or 1 normal & 1 double): Block on the Flesh Golem, Dodge on both Werewolfs (unless circumstances dictate taking more Tackle!)

If it's not allowed to put more than one skill on any player, the 3rd round will likely see block on 3 zombies and 1 Werewolf will get Wrestle instead of Block on round 1.

Is this a sound plan?

You don´t get that many skills at the World Cup II.

Day 1: 3 normal skills
Day2: 2 normal skills (one can be a double)
Day 3: 2 normal skills (one can be a double)

No skill-stacking.

I´m not a Necro-coach, but some people go with one Wolf, two Fleshies, two Ghouls, two Wights, 5 Zombies and 3 RRs.
In any case, I think you should go with at least 12 players.

Ah, thanks.

I'll stick to the:

2x Werewolf
1x Flesh Golem
2x Wight
2x Ghoul
5x Zombie
3x Reroll
2x Fan Factor

Roster

I think WW's are more useful than FG's. we'll see.

Skills, reconsidered: r1: Wrestle on one WW, block on the other, Guard on a wight. r2, Tackle on the other wight, guard on the FG. r3 block on one ghoul, sidestep on the other. double skills are not really needed on Necro anyway.

Yes, the only good doubles would be Guard on Zombies. But you have so many positionals that need skills it´s hard to go with the doubles.

Maybe you could skip Tackle because the Wolves already have Frenzy/Wrestle.

Well, R2 and R3 skills are conditional anyway; if the events at the tournament dictate taking other skills than I planned, I'm not gonna regard it as sacred writ!

Hmm, you need to apply all the skills on day one and can´t change anything after that.

Yep, your captain (or you if you are the captain) have to hand in the roster before the start of round 1, and it has to have all 7 skills noted on it.

Ok, well in that case:

R1: Wrestle on one Werewolf, Block on the other, Guard on a Wight.
R2: Tackle on the other Wight, Guard on the Flesh Golem.
R3: Block on one ghoul, Wrestle on the other.

Good plan?

Just an idea:

R2: Guard on second Wight, Break Tackle on Flesh Golem.

Wights give more mobile Guard, and F-Golems are the ultimate roadblock, useful to stymie the advance of any cage... when not marked out of action.
Wrestle+Frenzy is enough for most blodgers, imo.

Might be an idea ... on the other hand, I like to have options when it comes to going after blodgers; wrestle/frenzy is strong, but it isn't always wise to use, so Tackle still has a place IMO.

Thanks anyway, it's always good to get more imput. :)

I like your roster, but I usually prefer using 2 FG. However that is often the challenge of playing Necro, that you always get the FG and Zeds into the action, and that their movement and the opponents marking doesnt leave them behind. Anyways, depending on what you want how about MB on a wolf? I agree that Block/Wrestle is a good idea for one of them, but MB on the other would give you an upper hand against other bashy teams and in the grinding game... Just a thought and good luck from one necromancer to another :D
