Convince me to take woodie treeman?

Post by Warpstone »

All my instincts lean towards not taking a treeman in a resurrection tourny. I don't care about player loss, etc. What's the rationale for taking a tree on Woodie resurrection roster and does this out-perform alternatives such as line-elf+apo?

His presence on the line funnels opponents down the sidelines, this will protect your players far better then the apothecary and maybe you will get a casualty along the way.

I don't know if I can. I've always veiwed them as a liability and TV bloat.

I'd ask myself these two questions:

Q1: Do I just want to have fun and try to kill MOAR MENZ?

Q2: Do I want to try and win this tourney?

If the answer is 'Yes' to question 1 then I would say take the tree. If the answer is 'Yes' to question 2 I would leave him in the forest.

Wood Elves are all about maximising speed and agility.

The tree is slow and clumsy.

Never used one, never missed it.

I think the Tree works fine against most teams, protecting the other players.

Against a non-tree Wood Elf team it can be a disaster. Not that I'm bitter at all......................

I do not take the tree when I play woodelfs, but with one you can easier score one turners (if it gets grab).

A few years back I took a tree instead of a wardancer, mainly as I was trying to win best painted so only had time to do 11 models. I’ve taken woodies to a couple of other tournaments and for both those dropped the tree.

He was a bit of a liability and in several games got left standing in the centre of the pitch due to take root or lack of speed. Against less experienced players it is a bit of a player magnet but most will just give it some fodder to play with.

The main use is to take hits meant for your squishy linemen and it does give you normal access to strength skills too.

If the tournament was 110K with skills added for free then a tree, 2 dancers, 1 thrower (with leader asap) 3 catchers, 4 linemen and 2 re-rolls could work. It would be that or drop the tree for a lino and either a 3rd re-roll or apoth.

tree is very usefull for space management. 9 square are inacessible for the opponent and those 9 square are in the middle of the pitch.

Often the attack will have to pick a side and will not be able to change afterwards because the treeman is on the way.
Also it makes the scrimage stronger. If the opponenet wants to hit the 2 linelfs on the side he will have to stick 1 or 2 players to the tree. If he wants to bring the tree down he will have to bring several players and then the cage will get weak.

on offense the tree can 3dice-mighty someone at least once. After that it becomes a good place to hide when you need to let the clock run.

i think the tree is worse is cost, but not like wardancer, the return on investment is not easilly seen.

I have taken the tree and had success at a tourney with him.

I like him for the following reasons:
He saves you from taking a few hits on kickoffs. (You are armor 7 everywhere, so yes this does make a difference.)
He gives you a (better) chance to take out a few opposing players. Sure, woodelves want to maximize their speed, but that speed is even better when your opponent finds himself down a few players.

It all comes to play styles, though. I definitely get why some coaches do not like him.

I like the tree, i think it adds another dimension to the team that can be very helpful especially is the tourney demographic is alot of bash teams.

Tree is okay if you get to pick your skills first, especially if doubles are hard to come by. Take Root is worse than it sounds.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

The tree is useful, but less so in a resurrection environment.
Take Root is the devil, but if you can make sure he ties up two opponents, he's golden.
In the end, I think it most depends how much of a budget you have to play with.
