Ogre Build for Chaos Cup 2013 to win the CAS title!

Post by SunDevil »

Assuming the build rules will be the same as last year (and yes I know what that makes me!), I am considering the following build in an attempt to win the cas title. Not just win it but run away with it - which would make it the only thing Ogres (or Snots) have ever run away with!

Jonny, Xtreme, anyone who knows more than me - please correct me if I have anything wrong here. Or more likely, WHEN you find anything wrong here!

TV 1.1m - buy skills, no more than 2 of any one skill

1. Ogre w/Pile On = 140k + 20k = 160k (160k)
2. Ogre w/Pile On = 140k + 20k = 160k (320k)
3. Ogre w/Leader = 140k + 30k = 170k (490k)
4. Ogre = 140k (630k)
5. Ogre = 140k (770k)
6. Ogre = 140k (910k)
7. Snotling = 20k (930k)
8. Snotling = 20k (950k)
9. Snotling = 20k (970k)
10. Snotling = 20k (990k)
11. Snotling = 20k (1.01m)
12. Snotling = 20k (1.03m)
Reroll (x1) = 70k (1.1m)

Basically every play I'll just hit who I can and ignore the ball. That way, I get three line blocks every other turn or so after my opponent scores! Of course, a team could try to stall out on me but it is a tournament so I'd think they'd want the easy TDs. I might consider running three Snots back there to just crowd the ball.

Every turn will be all the blocks I can throw (Pile On EVERY TIME I don't naturally break or injure), Blitz and then foul.

I would have a LONG SHOT at the Stunty Cup but, like I said, my main goal is the Cas title. I'd be shooting for 30 in 6 games.

Thoughts?

PS - I'm hoping to use the APES of WRATH as Ogres!

As much piling on as possible. I took most casualties at a tourny by a large margin using 4 PO ogres.

I think it is a different build scheme this year. 1000k for players/rerolls, etc. and something like 150k for skills. This could actually improve your destructiveness. They posted on NAF, so check their for full rules.

After checking the Naf (Thanks solarflare!) I got both good and bad news.

"Team build basics:
1,000,000 to buy team
After team is built, you get 150k to buy skills (no stats)
No more than 2 skills added per player
No more than 4 of the same skill added to your team
Leader is removed from skill list"

So 4 PO, but no Leader! So if I take 6 Ogres, I get ZERO RRs!

Thus, I might go with -

1. Ogre = 140k (140k) BLOCK
2. Ogre = 140k (280k) BLOCK
3. Ogre = 140k (420k) BLOCK
4. Ogre = 140k (560k) Pile On
5. Ogre = 140k (700k) Pile On
6. Ogre = 140k (840k) Pile On
7. Snotling = 20k (860k)
8. Snotling = 20k (880k)
9. Snotling = 20k (900k)
10. Snotling = 20k (920k)
11. Snotling = 20k (940k)
12. Snotling = 20k (960k)
Cheerleaders (x2) = 20k (980k) (trying to get a RR with all the kick-offs!)
Assistant Coaches (x2) = 20k (1 million) (Same here!)
Or two more Snots for fouling fun!

But I could go PO x3 (60k) and BLOCK x3 for 90k = 150k in skills!

Or the "safer route" -

1. Ogre = 140k (140k) BLOCK
2. Ogre = 140k (280k) BLOCK
3. Ogre = 140k (420k) Pile On
4. Ogre = 140k (560k) Pile On
5. Ogre = 140k (700k) Pile On
6. Snotling = 20k (720k) DIRTY PLAYER
7. Snotling = 20k (740k)
8. Snotling = 20k (760k)
9. Snotling = 20k (780k)
10. Snotling = 20k (800k)
11. Snotling = 20k (820k)
12. Snotling = 20k (840k)
13. Snotling = 20k (860k)
RRs (x2) = 140k (1 million)

Still 3 normal skills and 3 doubles for 150k in skills

Thoughts? I think I like 6 Ogres, 14 players and ZERO RRs! :P

Its hardly worth buying rerolls with ogres... they just fail the same roll again. Definitely go with 6 of them.
Do fouling casualties count towards the trophy or not? If not, taking DP on a snot is probably not worth it, you'd be better off with a tiny guard

The 2nd option is the more competitive roster. But that may not be what is most important here.

Either roster will cause quite a few casualties.

Have fun. Games go more quickly with no rerolls. :)

Block is your best bet for cas I think.

You get 3 'safe' shots at the cas, then you start with the risky ones.

Agree with you all!

We still have some time but I'm thinking ZERO RR madness!

1. Ogre = 140k (140k) BLOCK
2. Ogre = 140k (280k) BLOCK
3. Ogre = 140k (420k) BLOCK
4. Ogre = 140k (560k) Pile On
5. Ogre = 140k (700k) Pile On
6. Ogre = 140k (840k) Pile On
7. Snotling = 20k (860k)
8. Snotling = 20k (880k)
9. Snotling = 20k (900k)
10. Snotling = 20k (920k)
11. Snotling = 20k (940k)
12. Snotling = 20k (960k)
Cheerleaders (x2) = 20k (980k) (trying to get a RR with all the kick-offs!)
Assistant Coaches (x2) = 20k (1 million) (Same here!)

3 doubles skills (90k) + 3 normal skills (60k) = 150k

I do think I'll go with the Cheerleaders and Coaches since we will be kicking oof a LOT!

Thanks for the tips and advice guys! I'll go 0-6 for sure but it would be hilarious to cause more cas that TDs scored against me!

It's pretty good, but I'm pretty sure the skill is called 'Piling On'.

U don't need 6 Ogres.

5 Ogres is a lot better. take 5 Piling On and fill up with snotlings. a lot of snotlings will hinder the opponent a bit which will make them focus on the ball more then on not getting hit. On top you can easily get assists with the snotlings. what you need is 3d blocks with the Ogres. so 1 Guard and 4 PO.

having 2 rr or 1 rr and 1 ac 1 cl will be way better. otherwise you roll a turnover in the first block you lose a lot of blocks that turn.

Blasphemy! This is all part of my campaign to change the names to PILE ON and SHADOW in the next ruleset!

You make a good point but I'm sort of hoping to have my cake and eat it too with the Cheerleaders and Assistant Coaches. I really think Block will help me get at least three safe blocks a turn (not counting Bonehead) and then I'll just have to risk it with the others.

The team is high risk/high reward - definitely not as good as your suggestion but I sort of like the craziness of it. :P

If you take PO (definetly using abbreviation here, don´t want to make people mad by using the PROPER name...) on all the ogres you can take block on one as well since you can have two skills on one player. Then you have a "safe" blitzer and still load up on lots of PO.

Mostly I suggest this so that you have a nice star player guy with 2 skills who can lord it over the plebs.
