1.1M Skaven for Dust Bowl, need team building advice

Post by Winged_Human »

Going to dustbowl, its a 3 round tournament, and I'm wanting to build a quick scoring Skaven team (shouldn't be difficult right?)

rules of the tourneys:
You are given 1,100,000 gold pieces to build your team using CRP team lists or the three additional team lists. You may purchase the following:
Ø Players
Ø Bloodwesier Babes
Ø Bribes
Ø Extra Team Training
Ø Master Chef
Ø Star Players
Ø Wandering Apothecaries
Ø Cheerleaders
Ø Assistant Coaches
-Before the tournament begins you will have 190k to spend on skills and improvements for your players. No single player may be given more than 40k in skills/upgrades. No skill or stat increase may be taken more than 4 times.
Use the following pricing.
20,000 New Skills
30,000 Skills that can only be taken on doubles
30,000 +MA or +AV

OK so here's what I have so far:

Base team
4x GR
2x Blitzer
7x linerats
4x RR
1x FF

190K in skills
GR1: block
GR2: SS
GR3: Sure Hands
GR4: Block
Blitzer1: Tackle
Blitzer2: MB
Linerat1: Kick
Linerat2: DP
Linerat3: Wrestle.
10K left over

My thoughts on the list: I really wanted to do a 1TTD GR, but shied away from it as last tourney I went to, he was targetted immediately and at 7AV was just not enough to help me win the games.

This is a running team, no throwing, hence the lack of a thrower.

If you know of a way that I can make this team more potent and give it a better chance of success please let me know.

thanks

My take:

Gutter Runner - Sure Hands (20K)
Gutter Runner - Guard (30K)
Gutter Runner - Block + Sidestep (40K)
Gutter Runner - Wrestle + Strip Ball (40K)

Storm Vermin - Guard (20K)

Rat Ogre - Juggernaut (20K)

Linerat - Kick (20K)
5x Linerat w/ no skills

Apothecary

3x Re-roll

Good luck 8)

Why the apothacary? None of the injuries are permanent?

Because you can't do without certain players that might become injured. Your 1-turn gutter runner from the previous tournament, for example.

Many tournaments use automatic apothecaries (no roll-just automatically cures one injury) these days, so it can be more valuable than just taking an extra unskilled lineman for the same cost.

I'm not sure if this tourney is an auto apoth, my only concern with the apoith is that it's a re-rolled injury, and if it fails then that's 50K down the drain.

that being said, I really do like your list, I mean it uses a RO, which is something I don't get to do often.

Remember you get to see the first roll, so if its only badly hurt it's 100% successful.

And maybe helpful to get that last KO-ed player stay ON the field, if needed.

I'm gonna follow you guy's advice and take this roster. tourney's this weekend, so I'll update the thread when I get back.

I'll be stuck in a car with the both down guys for 2+ hours both ways. so much ginger in such a small space might open up a hole in the space time continum.. we'll see.

Let’s hope you don’t catch ginger-vitis!

Throwers have a lot more uses than just for passing, the free sure hands re-roll makes them more likely to pick up the ball than a gutter if you don’t have a team re-roll. Plus it would mean you could give that gutter a different skill. You can give him leader as well to save 40K (20K overall once you factor in his increased cost over a lino) by dropping a re-roll too.
The free re-roll from pass is not bad either and having 4 gutters running loose makes it even harder for opposing players to defend. The risk of a hand off or pass from him opens up even more offensive options.

If you give the thrower block as well then he’s less at risk from ST3 strip ball players and is useful on defence for safer blocking.

Allright, results from the tournament...

Game 1 - Vs Kilowog skavens vs DE

the game was going good since his triple player w/ Stab + Multi-bock didn't get many people off the pitch. Was tied up in the half. Second half I scored a defensive touchdown, and he couldn't come back.

Record 1-0-0

Game 2 - V roger Skaven v Lizardmen

team had a Krox, 6 saurii (4 w/ block and guard) rest skinks one with surehands. I managed to foul his krox to death in the first turn, but the str 4 easily overpowered my skaven. I lost 2-1.

Record 1-0-1

Game 3 - v David skaven v Khemri

these damned khemri were moreagile than my skaven. Managed to hand off pass and dodge way too well. tied by the end of the game.

record 1-1-1

Overall 3rd place in the tournament by points.

Had fun with the list, and will keep it handy for more tournaments. Hopefully I can get more practice in before I attampt to attend chaos cup.

thanks for the help gents!
