Chaos Dwarves 1100 NAFC

Trying CD for the first time at the NAFC - stumbled upon some questions

My actual roster:

Mino
2 Bulls
6 Dwarves
3 Hobgoblins
2 RR
1 FF or AC or Cheerleader

- 12 Players without Apo - is it enough? Thinking about dropping the Mino and getting more RR and another hobgoblin, but still think the pure power of the mino could be of good use (double on day 2)

Skills

Sure Hands - Hobgoblin?
Bulls: Block or Break Takle (or even Sure Hands?)
Mino: Worth the Double? (Block?)
Dwarves: Guard till there are no more skills (?)

What is your opinon?

It gets the nickname of Minotard for a reason.... ;)

Mino's have cost me a lot of CD games including tourney games before I wised up...

so then what? :) Hobgolin + Apo? Starplayers?

And what would be the double then - probably guard (or dp?) on gobbo?

Arioso - I don't know the rules of your tourney, but as general principles I would recommend:

- 13 players (Hobgoblins are squishy)

- No Minotard (expensive, unreliable, and wasted when you take a blitz with a Bull)

- 3 Re-rolls (to enable the Bulls to handle the ball)

- Break Tackle on both Bulls

Of course some of these rules can be broken if the tourney has unusual rules.

Hope that helps.

Rules are next week's NAFC 3 skills on day one and 3 skills on day two. One skill of the 2nd day may be a double.

3 Rr if you can. I would not play with the mino, but he is a threat out of the box. Maybe if you love him, otherwise go without

Guard on dwarf
Bt centaur
Sh hobo
Block centaur
Guard dwarf
Guard dwarf

That is my choice. Centaurs can have either block for more muscle or both bt to give you blitzing options. I think with few skills on opponents sides I would get a hitter centaur to make sure you can punch. Probably best vs undead and Orc.

Regarding the Mino, your playing style may impact him.

You could use the double to give him claw and do 3D blitzes every turn if you like to play risky or go far cas records with MB on the Dwarfs. But if you're more conservative then drop him altogether.

I'd put an apoth ahead of an extra hobgoblin to use for BH's on any Dwarf or Bull.

I much prefer the extra Hobgoblin. An Apoth does not help you if you have 10 players on the pitch for the start of the drive and one or more in the KO bin. Of if you have 10 players left for the next drive and 1 was earlier sent off for fouling.

All the best.

Yes it does. It can turn a KO-ed bull or dwarf into a stunned

It went extraordinary well. I used

Mino: Block
BC: Block
BC: Break Tackle
3 Dwarves with guard.

I completely disagreed with smeborgs "rules :D
And who could even think about playing them without Bulls??
Never missed Sure Hands (even though i missed some pick-ups), and i would never think about trading the minotaur away. Would never trade the field power of a unskilled minotaur to a unskilled hobgoblin. Games weren't even much in my favor i think (got a total of 5 Blitzes against me in the tournament!!!) - still managed to finish 5-0-1

Nice. Interesting you liked the mino and did well. I might give the beast another try

Last time I used a mino at a tourney he messed up so many plays...

The thing is - don't make an important play with him - CD have enough fieldpower (especially with a BT Bull) to do their Blitzes. But when standing in the way a ST5 player with AV8 is a way harder target than a ST3 AV7 - Player. And the decision is NOT mino or 2 hobgoblins as you still only can field one of the hobgoblins and have 2 in the box which probably never see the field during a grinding game.

I always looked at him in the same way. If he ties up 2 Opponens with ST3 he does his job (even if its 2 zombies) - they usually won't block him, he is very annoying to those black orks and flesh golems too that cannot dodge reliably away from him - so the rest of the dwarves could do their blocking work easier. Still you can block and do an occasional casualty which is even better.

He got way more reliable on day 2 where i gave him Block, so i didn't have to use him last in every turn (i can remember only 2 turns in the whole tournament where i HAD to move/block with him earlier)

The problem with him is Patience i suppose :) Something i learned a lot while playing underworld with their troll, though i prefer Guard on the troll more than block.

Glad to see you finally saw the light..! 8)

Mino + dwarves works quite well, load up on guard and PERHAPS, perhaps sure hands on a hobgob. Only/for sure if the opponent has a 'stripper'. Double: block on mino. There are too many people who take a 2die against if their player has block at the end of their turn (I know I would, most of the time, as an opponent).

Used this on 2 Dutch Opens:
6CDs,
6 hobs,
mino,
3 RRs,
3 FF,
apo.
The skillset is quite sparse: 1 skill after each game, cant remember if there is a double. Maybe this set favours skaven or woodies but I found that CDwarfs work quite well there. Just dont take a bull: you dont have the skills (in that particular tournament).

I AM tinkering with a bull now, because the WC lets you have more skills. Perhaps it will work out, who knows.
