Flings on the Danish Open

So it seems I'll be going to the DO 2016 as a warm up to EUROBOWL 2016.

According to the rules I can, with flings have 2 doubles by day two. And one player may even get two skills.

rules can be found here: http://bloodbowl.dk/onewebmedia/All_Tea ... uleset.pdf

SO I get 2 trees and 14 flings + apo and 3+3 on ass/cheer. apo and 5 FF. so yeah, full team galore. Great!
That was the easy part.

What I need help with is the skills.

The first three game I'll have 5 normal skills and one double
So I'm thinking
BT on the trees one Block, Sure Feet Fling and DT one the two additional flings.

On the last three games I get 3 normal skills and one double.
I'll add Kick on one fling and three more DT flings.

Now ist that a good use of the doubles?
An alternative would be one fling with only Block and the other with DP, SGit.
Or maybe two Block Flings? Block & Wrestle?

How would YOU build a Fling team?

I wouldn't give a tree a skill unless it's a double.

In my opinion, the best (normal)skill for 'flings is side step.
I usually take four and then add some diving tacklers.

I would go something like this

Day 1
Block on a tree
Side step on four 'flings
Diving tackle on a 'fling

Day 2
Block on a tree
Diving tackle on two 'flings
Sure feet on a 'fling

I understand that no inducement can be used apart from the master chef. In that case, and having 1150k to spend, I would build a team like this:

2 treemen 240k
14 flings 420k
1 master chef 100k
1 apotechary 50k
4 RR 240k
6 fan factor 60k
2 assistant coaches 20k
2 cheerleaders 20k

For the skills, I'd go with what Pedda suggested, but removing one diving tackle and giving Break Tackle to one of the trees (you can pile up two skills in one player)

no starplayers :(

I'm with pedda - the trees need block for both doubles, and sidestep is the best normal for the flings. I'd look at maybe multiple block stacked on a tree too - with a couple of assists thats giving you an extra block/mb two dicer on the line of scrimmage and can be a big help for clearing out for a one turner.

No deeproot is going to hurt you a lot though.

Block on the trees? really?

My experience is that they get stuck with one lineman each while the rest of the team has to fend for them selves. And the double is wasted once they root. With Break Tackle they have to commit more guys to keep the trees pindown. And with three Block Dices most of the time I should manage without block.

A blodge is a blodge even with ST2. And to be able to run the ball you need a blodge.

When it comes to sidestep vs diving tackle, well, you may have a point. Sidestep is usually my first pick in a league since it's anoying and sometimes actually keeps the buggers from getting hit in the first place.
I just thought that DT would come more in handy since its ressurection so I don't mind as much the injuries and it would stop the elfs.

So no one thinks there is any merit on a dirtyplayer fling?

Your treemen need to make casualties in order to give you a chance of having similar number of players on the field and with block you maximize their options for that. Also, with 4 RR and the master chef you shouldn't have problems rerolling failed take root rolls since they don't have Loner.

Anyway, I'm with babass, any ruleset that doesn't allow halflings to hire star players makes things very difficult for them.

I can only advise based on my own experiences with them, and in those experiences, then yes - you need that block. It's as much about reliably being able to roll those three dice as your first action as much as anything else - and not needing to worry about keeping the reroll back for your pick-up or blitz.

What is the point of having a budget of 1.150.000 gps for halfling, if you could not buy inducements like starplayers, wizrards, or even special cards...

I hear you guys, thanks for the advices.

I guess block on trees just feels... too mainstream(read boring). So I really want to avoid it.

No one has even mentioned foul as a valid tactic for flings..... so no dirty player is worth the double right?

And it's a shame nobody mentioned it.

I would go with grab on the trees, a block/side step fling, a DP fling (you can stack sneaky git here, but he will be hunted and injured in the end, much more useful the block/side step), and spice the rest of your halflings at will.

Block on the trees? Boooooring, and no one guarantees you more casualties. 3 dices should give you enough to block safely, considering you can reroll if needed. Grab is useful, block, push them wherever you want, and if they fall, surround them with your boys and put the boot in.

The block on the trees is not just about blocking, but more so about being blocked without going down.

Regarding dirty player, it's a great skill, but not really needed. Block is better on the trees. You can still foul (and you should) without DP

I finally decided and went with BT on the trees.
A Block Sure Feet Fling
A Wrestle Fling
and 6 SideSteppers.

The end result was 19th place out of 44 and winner of the stunty cup with 3,1,2.
(8-7)(17-30)
All in all really well(despite the 30 cas against me!).

On BT.
My experience was that BT is way better than Block. I kept track of how many blocks failed because I didn't have block and the fact was that there seldom was a block guy ready for the tree to hit. And when I did find one I wanted to hit more often than not Block wouldnt have helped me put them down.
The was of course the matter of that pesky Block,MB,Claw Troll that had me grinding my teeths, but in the end it was the threat that BT imposes on my pponent that gave me the win.

Most coaches went to great lenghts to limit the trees. That worked in my favor.

A downside of BT is that you actually dodge with the trees. That in some games I had to roll two 2+ rolls. Since I had 6+ rerolls on every half that didn't became a problem though.

Block Sure Feet.
Good combo, extremely useful. I wished a few times I had side step instead. But Sure feet really saved me a couple of times.

Wrestle
Sound good but never had a chance to use it. He was really a target for everyone and dissappeared early every game.

I have an upcoming tournament where I'm going to try block on the trees. See where that gets me.

I love break tackle on my trees - they have more reach with BT and ge tied up less.

Starting with the trees off the line and choosing my targets and breaking away from sacrificial lineman to hit a more valued target has really helped my game.

I for one would start with break tackle and add block after if possible
.
