Swiss or Random

Post by Valen »

Last years Eurobowl was the first Eurobowl that was Swiss at all, all others before had been random, I like the idea of that alot better.

I am just trying to gage the feelings of the rest of the teams.

The options on the poll are firstly teams secondly players

eg, Swiss/Swiss = Swiss the teams and swiss the players in the team

Does this poll really matter as it's up to the Italians anyway isn't it? Or are you gonna ask the Italians to make their choice based on these results?

Just trying to gage what kind of opinion there is amongst the Eurobowlers, it appears the Italians may have it correct going swiss/swiss, its just that IMO swiss/swiss goes against everything the Eurobowl idea was set up for, but ho hum

Don't really have strong opinions about this but to say "goes against everything that Eurobowl stands for" is a bit excessive!!

I've discussed with Lucifer (who is VERY pro random) who made a good point... Swiss makes it more likely that the same similarly-matched nations will face each other every year, random means you're more likely to come up against a wider range of nations and therefore meet and play a wider range of coaches e.g. it's quite likely that England/Spain/Italy/France/Germany will all play each other again in November. Is this a good thing?

The potential problem with random is that a "competitive" nation could be fortunate and draw 4 or 5 of the "less competitive" nations and achieve a fortuitous victory.

I have voted for random, but IMO this should be Italy's decision and not decided by a TBB poll ;-)

I do prefer the swiss/swiss system
the reason why the swiss system is better for me is because if you have an average/low level, with the full random you may face 5 experimented coach that will just overcrush you on each game, this is not funny. And whenever this is not only about winning, i think that playing matches against opponent of your level is more appreciable.

No matter if you are the 'higher level' or the 'lower level' a match agaisnt someone of your level is more enjoyable because overcrushing someone is not fun, and being overcrushed is not fun either.

my 2 cents

the max number of teams so far has been 12 (might be broken this year who knows) so it is hard to imagine the same teams play over and over again especially if the first game is random.

Voted Swiss / random.

FWIW I voted Swiss-Random. I think the Random player selection enhances the idea of playing as a team more than having swiss within the team, though Swiss is the fairest wasy to determine a champion team.

After facing 4 wood elf teams in spain (most nations #1 team was woodies) I am very much opposed to swiss matching players. Matching teams Swiss is just common sense though.
