Mordor Marauders an Underworld Creepers Team

Post by atropabelladonna »

Introduction

A friendly rant from our Coach

I have grown bored waiting for my servants to find the one ring. What do the other powerful entities do when they are bored with terrorizing thier neighbors? Why they make like an Aquilini and buy a professional sports team!

Long did I plot the rise of this team. Now they are ready to take on all the other inferior races. My goblins have been perfected, ready to undertake any change I desire. Hmm, shall this one side step and have a prehensile tail or should I go with two heads and a big hand? Ahh the tough decisions I have to make.

Orcs are too slow and stupid, they couldn't even defeat Rohan with 10 times the number! So I created a new breed. I call them Skaven. They shall fight, and run, and mutate to adapt to any force. They shall take the Power bowl so I shall have a cup to place my one ring in. When I find the dam thing...

and the crown jewel of my team. A troll that can will be more powerful than a balrog! He shall grow tentacles, claws, and guard all his small friends. He shall grow in legend until he forget to regenerate.

About Thunderbowl

The Thunderbowl league is based in Vancouver Canada (Surrey if you know Vancouver). Here is the basics of the league:
  • ~ 50 coaches
  • We are just starting season 8 using the LRB 6 rules. We were using LRB 5
  • We use the cards as an additional inducement, 5 free Fan factor and FF does not count to TV, and MVP's can only go to living team members as optional rules. There is also a few minor house rules.
  • Divided into 2 leagues
  • B league is for any team that has completed one season in the C league.
  • C league is all new teams (TV 100)
  • It is a scheduled league, with 2 games played a month at a local hotel conference room
  • The season runs for 6 months, 5 months being the season and the last involving the Playoffs
  • Top 12 - 16 teams in the B league play for the Thunderbowl (Bloodbowl) in a single round knock out format
  • Top 12 - 16 teams in the C league play for the Power bowl (Chaos Cup) in a single round knock out format
  • The remaining teams can choose to play for the Underbowl (Spike trophy)
  • There is a $50 fee to join for the season, $40 goes to room rental and $10 goes to the club for betterments such as 40mm boards, timers, etc.
You can check out Thunderbowl at http://www.thunderbowl.ca

I prefer going right to the database at http://www.thunderbowl.ca/tbsn. This is something the league admin's added last season and it is fantastic. It was not thier creation. I think it is called the OBBLM.

Unfortuantly we are a bit self centered and do not have much content for non TB members (i.e. articles, etc.). I think it may be where we will trying to go in the future.

Starting Team

The Mordor Maruaders starting roster can be found here:

http://www.thunderbowl.ca/tbsn/index.ph ... eam_id=126

To summarize:

2 Skaven Blitzers
2 Skaven Linerats
2 Skaven Thowers
1 Warp Troll
5 Goblins
3 Rerolls
1 Apothecary

I think this is a pretty solid line up for a long term league. I like that i have an extra player to start and 3 rerolls should be sufficient. I hope to hire 1 goblin a game for the next 5 games!

Team Rules

I have set some team rules for myself. I will explain after, but here is the list.
  • 1) All models must be painted and representative. The only exception is mutations.
  • 2) The first inducement to be picked must be a dirtly Player card
  • 3) The second inducement picked must be a Magic Item Card
  • 4) Future inducements are free from choice as long as they follow rule 1.
  • 5) At least 50% of the skill choices must be mutations. Stat increases are considered mutations for this while double skills are counted as skills.
Some a bit of reasoning

1. Models

I have a problem being motivated to paint. I played Necro the last 2 seasons and only ended up painting the zombies. I want to pressure myself to paint more. Luckily I have a fully painted Goblin team, so I only have to paint up 6 skaven. I have also aquired a bunch of skaven mutants as well as some two headed goblins and extra arm goblins. I plan on painting these up as well, but first the Skaven. I have 3 weeks to get them done! The first game is Feb 6th

2 - 4. Inducements

This is just a fun theme. I see an Underworld team being a bunch of dirty rotten scoundrels. Hence they alway take a dirty play to even things up. Then I see Sauron, being the mighty crafter of artifacts, building little magic item toys for his team to use. So that is where the next 50K will be spent. After that I have free reign aside from Mercs, and Stars, where I need some sort of mini. I suppose having my own deck of special play cards also helps!

5. Skill Choices

This is also a theme thing. I want to use lots of mutations to represent Sauron tinkering with his team. So I will have a constant count of Mutations skills vs. non mutation skills. Mutation skills must by > or = to mutation skills. I see stat increase as mutations while double skills as specialized training. I also have a bunch of goblin and Skaven models and I want to use them!

Future Development

Here is what I plan on taking, but doubles, stat increases may change everything.

Warp troll
Claws, Guard, Tentacles

Blitzer #1, aka Killer
Mighty Blow, Claw, Piling On

Blitzer #2 Not so sure what to do. A second killer or a guarder?
Horns, Guard?

Line rats (ball hunters)
Wrestle first, not sure what after. Depends of team development. Some choices are: horns / tackle / stripball

Thrower 1 (ball handler)
Extra arms, accurate, two-heads?

Thrower 2 (defensive ball carrier)
Block, ?Big Hand?

Goblins

Wow so many choices, but I see two heads occuring a lot. A few extra arms, maybe one big hand and one horns for a crazy cage run, a sneaky git fouler, the sidestepping diving tackle guys as well. I am not sure how long these will live and if I should make long term plans for them. At least in LRB 6 they will live longer.

I just started getting some SPP on my underworld team and am working on how to develop these little guys. My first gobbo got doubles, so I gave him strip ball, and it's proving quite effective. Even with 2 dice-uphill blocks, most of the time you'll still get a push. I'm torn with whether I want Horns or Two Heads next, to make him more effective at this. Probably Horns, as he's a reasonably good dodger now and it'll improve his blocking considerably.
