The Brokken Teef take on the Immortals for a Division Game!

The Brokken Teef have finally caught up with the “Immortal” Humans, and set them up for a proppa’ game. 36,000 fans showed up to watch this match-up. And although the ‘Teef had 2 times as much Fan Factor as the immortals, they only had 2,000 fans more.

The Humans received $540k in inducements to play this game, and hired two skilled guard mercenary blitzers, and trained extra hard (ending up with no less than 6 team rerolls).

The ‘Teef won the coin toss, and chose to kick the ball. The Fans Cheered, and favored the Immortals, granting them another re-roll this half (so 7 rerolls total). Our cunning plan was now to plant as many of the Hummies as possible 6 feet under, where they could continue their “Immortal” existence. Alas, the plan was foiled. Despite strength and Guard advantage, the Orcs only managed to either push or knock down the opposition. The Immortal armor held, and they all got back on their feet each turn.

At the end of the 1st Quarter a duo of blitzers managed to knock down the only opposition in the ‘Teef back-field, and the accompanying Catcher (with the Ball) positioned himself within scoring distance. Although the Orcs threw every block they could (9 in all), no injuries (or KO) were reported. 1-0 for the Immortals

2nd Quarter the Teef receive, and it is a deep kick (in the end-zone). A change in weather caused the ball to be carried out of bounds, and the touch-back saw the ball in the hand of the Runner blitzer. With only 2SPPs to go for his next skill, the coach called a pass to the Thrower (who was a natural ball carrier anyway). The Cage is poised to be formed, and the first line throws its blocks, to disengage. The Blitzer Passes… and it is a Fumble (1). Re-roll… Fumble (1). The cage is not complete, the ball is within range of an Immortal blitzer.

No-problem, I say. 4 more turns to score. But that was if the Runner Blitzer could do anything right. He keeps on messing up pick-ups, hand-overs, dodges, receiving blocks, etc. and burns quickly through all of the 'Teef rerolls. A partial cage is built, with 3 turns to go. The cage collapses. 1-die block on Runner, POW! He goes down, and the ball bounces all over. It lands on Ben HURR!, who needs a 6 to catch it. “6” it is. He is a natural! He is manned on all sides, and even though he can throw up-blocks he cannot advance fast enough. Meanwhile the Goblin runs in the wide zones, and creeps on the end-zone.

Brilliant coaching by the Immortals sees an assited block against HURR! And POW!, he goes down! Ball bounces, but it is still within grasp. Two turns to go before the end of the half. Runner the blitzer tries to dodge out of a tackle zone to provide assistance in the scoring effort. Rolls 1, Re-roll-2. Goes down.

The ‘Teef pick up the ball, hand-off and try to short pass it to the Goblin. Inaccurate pass, scatters out, is throws in, scatters out, is thrown in again, ends in the Teef half. Last chance: Runner picks himself up and picks up the ball. Can’t. Time is called, and the score at the half is 0-1.

Second half, there is a Riot and everyone wastes time until the fans a calmed down. The game goes much smoother, with a few of the Immortals hitting the showers extra early (via crowd surfing or punch to the face). The Immortals think themselves sneaky and try to go around the Orc cage. Which is ok for us, ‘cuz that leaves less Hummies between the ball and TZ. By the end of the 3rd Quarter there are 3 blitzers and the Goblin within scoring range. Oh, and the Ball too. "Runner" blitzer puts a little spring in his step, and easily makes the TD. Meanwhile in the backfield there are enough ‘Teef to keep on kicking Immortals, putting 1 in the KO box, and killing another. And it is 1-1.

Three turns to go, and the Immortals are receiving again. Fans raise a Cheer again, this time for the ‘Teef (extra reroll). A deeper deployment by the Orcs is easily broken through, and a Catcher with the ball decides to go as far as possible, even though the EZ is within 4 yards. He is by himself, and only Runner appears to stand a chance to make a go at him. The Catcher trips and lands on his nose. The ball scatters towards the center.

And this is the opportunity the ‘Teef have been looking for! Runner goes for the Ball and manages to pick it up. He passes it to a Blitzer that is still at the LOS. The Goblin and the Troll push their way deeper into the opposite half, and the Goblin receives a hand-off. The rest of the team bashes heads together, putting most of the opposition down.

The counter-attack is ineffective, and on the last turn, too far to run for it, the Troll picks up the Goblin to throw him. But so late at night the Troll is too hungry, and tries to eat the Gobbo. The coach uses the last team re-roll to stop that. The throw is successful, and the Goblin lands within 3 squares of the end-zone. Face first. Last re-roll used, the game is called.

Final Tally: 1-1. The ‘Teef get 50k for their troubles, and lose one Fan Factor.

Runner, despite being such a wretch, gets both a kill and a TD this game, and gains another skill.
