Look to the sky. That approaching darkness. That uneasy feeling of dread. That's a plague coming. These aren't just any frogs. We aren't content just to score at will, we want to take yours. Look to the sky... it's the Lethal Leap!

This Lethal Ledger is intended to be a history and description of the Lethal Leap. In order for a clear picture to be formed we need to cover a brief history of coach Furry and the league…
In 2008 a group of gamers got together and formed a league with the intention of playing a new game. Out of this group was formed the Nerd Night Ultimate Blood Bowl League (NNUBBL). Through much trial and error and much coaching turnover the NNUBBL evolved after three seasons into the Kalamazoo Ultimate Blood Bowl League (KUBBL). That iteration of the KUBBL lasted 4.5 seasons and saw its fair share of changes and turnover as well.
Enter now the late summer/fall 2011 and the coaches of the KUBBL decided to restart the league. Having gone through many house rules and changes in the past the league decided to play as close as they could to the Living Rule Book 6.0.
Over the seasons (Furry) played a plethora of teams/races. For NNUBBL I, II and III Furry coached the Dwarfs of the Sindarin Ursas. The league went through multiple house rules at that time and the Ursas won a defacto second place in season I (the league stopped short and that was a result of a roll off) and lost in the first round of the playoffs in season II. Season III was the final season of the NNUBBL and, it was thought, the final season for the Ursas. The team performed well winning the Best Defense Award but falling early on in the playoffs.
Enter the KUBBL. The “Nerds” of the NNUBBL decided that it would be better to take this fine game to a local game store and thus changed their name to the Kalamazoo Ultimate Blood Bowl League. Coach Furry took a Dark Elf team over to the KUBBL, the Harvester of Sorrow. The Sorrow played the first three seasons of the KUBBL with no awards to show for their on field play. They were awarded the Best Theme Award in KUBBL I.
KUBBL IV saw a return of the Sindarin Ursas to the pitch. This time the Ursas represented themselves very well winning the KUB Championship and joining The Ratkateers and the Maynooth Gits as the league’s undefeated teams during their championship seasons.
KUBBL V was a short lived challenge league that coach Furry introduced a Khemri team, the Desert Sands. The Sands were in the lead (because they had played the most games) when the season folded.
Enter the rebirth of the KUBBL and the Slann of Lethal Leap!

History - The Slann team is an ancient race of space travelers stranded on our planets many ages ago. After realizing that rescue was never coming they settled down and began ordering the Lizardmen around as their leaders. While most Slann prefer to become fat and lazy lording over the Lizardmen, a few of younger and more energetic members enjoy travelling the realm and playing Blood Bowl. While the Slann have no passing game to speak of, their ability to leap, dive, and intercept are second to none.

Their fathers have grown into ridiculously sedentary fat overlords and the members of the Leap have grown not only to despise their lineage but to pursue their goal of earning their power and respect through domination on the Blood Bowl Pitch. The members of the Leap were handpicked by coach Furry for their aggression on the field of play. The team is a group of risk takers and they look to impose their will upon all opponents.

The current roster of players is only 11 deep which is risky but with risk comes a greater chance for reward. The current state of the team has them with five line frogs, three catchers, two blitzers, and one Kroxigor. Each player will have his own roll on the team and they are set to the personalities if not the abilities of the players.

Line frogs – The line frogs are a key element of any slann team. The linies of the Lethal Leap are no exception. It’s their job to get opponents out of the way of the faster catchers and blitzers. Getting them out of the way means getting them to the ground however possible. They really need to do it all for this team.
#1 – Calcarata
#2 – Noctumus
#3 – Ornata
#4 – Barycholos
#5 – Phyllonastes

Catchers – The catchers are the stars of the team. Since they have no passing skills to speak of, they need to rely on their high agility to get the job done. These players will be expected to do the majority of the ball handling and will occasionally be called on to make the hit against all odds to try to stop the other team.
#6 – Hewitti
#7 – Purcelli
#8 – Regis

Blitzers – The blitzers are the safeties of this team. Often they will be the last line of defense against the opposition. They are very mobile a tough to get away from. However the blitzers are the risk of a slann team. You pay quite a premium as an owner for them but these types of frogs are traditionally slow starters.
#10 – Terribilious
#11 – Leucomelas

Kroxigor – The big guy. He’s strong and dim-witted but extremely fast for his size. Often over looked as an unreliable player the Leap are looking for their Krox to have much more of an impact on this team. A ton of weight will be put on his shoulders.
#14 – Beelzebufo

Lethal Leap

Game 1: Aztocalypse
Rundown – Opening kick went to Aztocalypse and it looked like we would be playing in a rain storm. On the kick, however, the weather changed to perfect and no problems ensued. The Lidzardmen had started to move forward and protected the ball well. The ball carrying skink dodged successfully away from a diving tackle from blitzer Terribilious. The leap were able to cause the ball to come out on a both down thrown by Linefrog Barycholos. The ball scattered into the open and on their next turn the leap were able to capitalize on a tackle zone pick-up and a subsequent pass from [profile] Regis led to the first score. For their second score the leap took advantage of a failed dodge. The two teams went into the half at 2-0 for the Leap. In the second half the Leap scored after getting the kick off. Aztocalypse then did what lizards do best and took advantage of an extremely small gap to blast through for their score.

Beelzebufo didn’t win the MVP but did an excellent job at being the hitter he is. He finished the game by causing two casualties and three knockouts while only bone heading twice and throwing one triple skull.

Purcelli: 2 TD’s
Hewitti: 1 TD
Regis: 2 Completions
Beelzebufo: 2 Casualties

Lethal Leap
Game 2: Artnumb Trouts
Rundown – The first half kick was received by The Trout. The Leap rolled a blitz on the opening kick. We didn’t setup well for it so after Beelzebufo threw his blitz we scattered the kick. The first drive saw the Leap able to take advantage of positioning and crowd surf a player, turn the ball over and score. The ensuing kick-off saw another blitz action for the Leap. The very first action during the blitz saw a catcher fall and casualty himself. Then the Trout were able to throw a blitz on their turn causing a casualty on one of the other leap catchers. The Leap now had 8 players on the pitch and the Trout out-manned and out-positioned the Leap. The frogs had to resort to desperation plays to stop the Trout. We proceeded to fail all of our desperation attempts as the one’s came fast and furious. Beelzebufo had three bonehead rolls, a double down and a failed go-for-it making the Trouts’ scores not just with real good odds but without needing to make any rolls.
Purcelli: 1 TD
Regis: 2 Completions
Beelzebufo: 2 Casualties

Side-note: Calcarata was casualtied on the first turn in both games one and two.
The Artnumb Trouts broke armor at a ridiculous pace. Luckily for our player health the didn’t roll crazy on injuries.

The first half kick went to Dunger Mifflin and in true dwarven fashion they took seven turns to score their touchdown. The Leap had two turns to score but a double down by Beelzebufo ended the opportunity. The Leap were unable to any offense going in the second half and the Chaos Dwarves took the ball and that was all she wrote. The slann were thoroughly beaten down but were just stunned a lot.

The slann had enough time to score in the first half then would get the kick in the second half so for all intents and purposes we should have been able to score with ease. The krox needed to clear a path for the score on turn eight of half one he only needed a push but got a skull - double down result ending that scoring chance. Then the kick off for the second half was a blitz and his bull got to within the balls tackle zone after the scatter. The slann had to get him off the ball and try to get the ball out of there. The Krox, due to four assist, got a three die block on the bull. The best result was a push which didn't do much to help. The Krox has thrown three three-die-blocks this season resulting in a triple skull and two push results. The slann were able to hold the chaos dwarves at bay and even be able to knock the ball into the crowd. The crowd saw fit to throw the ball into the only place the slann couldnt get it. They threw it into a spot of three tackle zones for the CD's. Game ended 1 - 0

Game 4 – Idlestien Olafs
The opening kick went to the Olafs and once again the Leap got a blitz result. The Blitz cleared a path to where the ball was coming down with only one leap being necessary. The roll result was a one so the Leap had to use a reroll. The Leap were able to get to catchers and a blitzer around the ball. The first catcher rolled a two on the initial kick and the diving catch of the player it scattered to failed as well. The Olafs’ were able to knock the catchers around and get the ball one their turn one. They ran the ball into a cage and during the Leaps‘ turn one they cancelled out the helpers and went for a leap into the cage for their blitz action with a blitzer. The leap failed. I took the Olafs until turn 5 to score. the leap failed one more leap attempt into the cage and had to use their apoth on their strength 4 linefrog who was killed.

The Lethal Leap scored easily in two turns and the half ended.

The second half kick went to the Leap and they set up to score on their second turn. Instead the Olafs were able to roll a six and intercept the pass. The Norse were able to move their way down the pitch and thanks to a numbers advantage of 11 to 5 scored with four turns left in the half for a 2-1 lead. The next kick saw another two turn score from the Leap.

The kick scattered to the line of scrimmage and a failed go-for-it by the Olafs scattered the ball one space into the Norse half. Beelzebufo proceeded to bonehead a blitz to clear the ball of tackle zones but Regis had the ability to leap in, pick the ball up and dodge out of a tackle zone within 8 squares of a touchdown. The Olafs had to blitz the catcher and push him. With his leap skill he needed only a 2+, 2+ to score on turn seven. He went for it and rolled a one. FAIL

The Leap had a miracle two die up-hill blitz to score a miracle turn 8 touchdown which ended with a defender down result.

The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Regis - 2 Completitions, MVP
Hewitti - 2 Touchdowns

Game 5: Lashes Fer Landlubbers

The Lethal Leap won the opening flip and chose to kick. This choice resulted in a blitz result. The Leap were able to get into the back field before the kick came down thus disrupting the Lashes from forming their dwarf cage. The Lashes took advantage of their great runner, Zyman the Dancer to secure the ball in a quasi cage. The dwarf block ability let them down as a usually safe one die block led to the Leap getting the first casualty of the game. The Leap were able to get the ball free midway through the first half but due to some coaching errors on the part of Furry, couldn't get the ball themselves. On the dwarven turn eight, coach Beaux called upon Zyman the Dancer to throw a short pass to the awaiting arms of a dwarf blocker, "Big" Harpe for the only score of the first half.

The two teams went into the half with the score at 1-0 but a surprising casualty score of 2-0 in the Leap's favor.

The kick for the second half went to the Leap. The Lashes were able to get a perfect defense set up and because of that the Leap went from thinking of scoring slowly to seeing an opportunity to score quickly. The dwarfs had focused heavily on the wide zones leaving the center of the pitch lightly guarded. The Leap were able to split the dwarven lines for a three turn score. The ensuing kick traveled almost back to the goal-line and the Leap were again blessed with a blitz result. They weren't able to get to the ball but were able to out number the dwarfs in the area and turn the ball over allowing them to score again.

The dwarfs were left with three turns to score but due to an inaccurate pass on their final turn, weren't able to score.

Hewitti Touchdown
Purcelli Touchdown
Regis Completion
Noctumus Casualty
Barycholos Casualty

Game 6: Saithe's Minions
The opening toss went the way of Saithe's Minions and they chose to receive. The kick went over the midfield line and was given to a beastmen in the back field. The Minion were able to set up a solid box near the center of the pitch and then proceeded to throw their first round of blocks. The Minion threw their three blocks and their blitz. These opening blocks resulted in two ko’s and one stun. It was beginning to look like the frogs were going to get squished. The Leap moved players around the box but only threw one block of their own, a push, in order to set up for a turn two strip ball. Two more frogs ended up in the knock out box from the Chaos’ next turn. The Leap were able to uphill a double push on an up-hill block and strip the ball free. It took until the 6th turn of the first half for the slann to get the ball fully free and score their first touchdown. The drive ended with 5 frogs in the knockout box including three linefrogs, a catcher and the Krox. Before setting up for the subsequent kick only one linefrog decided to come back in. The half ended with the Leap up 1-0.

The kick for the second half went to the Leap. And they were able to set up a two turn score. An error on the part of coach Furry a beastman was able to push twice for the blitz. Because of this it took three turns for the Leap to score in three turns instead of two. The Leap were able to finish off the game by slopping a turn 7 touchdown to make it a 3-0 game. This marked the first loss for Saithe's Minions.

Interesting facts of the game:
Saithe's Minions broke armor 15 times resulting in 8 KO’s, 7 Stuns, and 0 Casualties.
Lethal Leap threw seven blocks the whole game.
Lethal Leap dropped two accurate passes that would have resulted in touchdowns

Hewitti Touchdown
Purcelli Touchdown
Regis Touchdown
Regis 2 Completions
Hewitti Completion
Beelzebufo 2 Casualties

There was no game this Tuesday for the Lethal Leap but this week saw a free agent acquisition of Depressa. Press has been on the practice squad for the beginning of the season but has earned a call up to the Leap. He has shown the coaching staff and front office that he deserves to be in the big leagues.

Game 7- Mithlond Wolverines

The opening kick went to the high elves. The Wolverines brought the ball into the Leap half of the pitch. Hewitti used his ability to strip the ball away from Desmond Howard the ball bounced out onto the field. On their next turn the Leap failed a go-for-it blitz and therefore the ball remained on the ground. The Wolverines took advantage of that failure moving the ball down the field and scoring the games first touchdown with Braylon Edwards. The Lethal Leap were able to score a touchdown on their turn with Purcelli’s touchdown. The following kick saw the Leap able to get the ball away from the Wolverines and Regis scored on the Leap turn 8. The teams went into the halftime break with the score at 2-1.

The second half saw the kick go to the Leap. They moved the ball down the field and eventually they scored with a td by Terribilious. This gave the lead of 3-1 to the Leap. Then the kick went to the Wolverines and they were able to score easily with Anthony Carter to make it 3-2 Leap. The Wolverines kicked the ball toward the sideline and the Leap were unable to pick it up leading to the Wolverines having a chance to pick it up. Both teams were able to get tackle zones on the ball but neither team was able to pick-up the ball.

Regis - touchdown, completion
Terribilious - touchdown
Purcelli - touchdown
Hewitti - completion

Semi-final Match – Saithe's Minions

The Minions were highly represented in the stadium giving the Chaos +2 fame. The toss went to the Lethal Leap and they chose to kick in the first half. The Minions brought the ball over the half way line on their first turn. Like the last time these two met the Chaos definitely were beating the frogs in the hitting department. The Leap set up a screen to attempt to slow down the Chaos on turn 2. The Leap were then able to blitz the ball carrier and pop it out with strip ball, pick-up the ball, and pass it off for a touchdown. The chaos then got the kick and moved it up. The Leap stripped the ball but were unable to retrieve the ball. The Minion picked it up and scored on their turn eight.

The second half saw the frogs and the chaos trade two turn touchdown until the score was 3-2. The Minion had three turns left to score the tying touchdown. The kick went all the way up to the line of scrimmage. Saithe's Minions picked up the ball and put a beating on many of the Leap players. The Lethal Leap set-up a prevent defense and waited out the Minion. They moved the ball to within seven squares of the end zone and formed a full four corner box to set up a scoring attempt on turn 16. Through a blitz and some dodges the Leap were able to get five tackle zones on the ball carrier including two diving tackle players and one with prehensile tail. The Minions were able to block and blitz those three players away but needed a series of 5,5,4,3,2 in order to score and that sequence turned out to hard to finish for the chaos and therefore the frogs held on for a 3-2 victory. Great Game!

Leucomelas - TD
Depressa – 2 TD’s
Purcelli – 2 Comps
Hewitti – Comp
Regis - Comp

KUBBL Championship! - Lashes Fer Landlubbers

54,000 strong poured into The Trout Pond in Artnumb to see the clash between the number 1 seed, Lashes Fer Landlubbers versus the 2 seed, Lethal Leap. The Leap won the regular season match-up, 2-1, and the Lubbers were looking to exact their revenge.

The opening kick went to the dwarf pirates. Zyman the Dancer used his abilities to gather up the ball and get it into a four guard pronged cage. They were able to get on knockout from their opening blocks. The Leap positioned themselves and waited patiently to get a chance at the ball. The Lubbers were able to move the ball up their right wide zone and into frog territory by turn three. The positioning of the dwarfs did not allow the Leap to blitz into the box and they had to continue backing up and waiting. The Lashes Fer Landlubbers started to win the numbers battle making it even harder for the frogs to defend. The Lubbers positioned themselves for a turn eight score but coach Furry decide to use his seventh turn to push Zyman the Dancer into the end zone to save his frogs from more of a beating.

The second half kick went to the Leap and they attempted to set up a two turn score. They were able to get players into position but didn’t pick-up the ball; as Beelzebufo double both downed, passed loner, then both down/skulled to end the Leaps turn 9. The Leap were able to get a scoring chance on turn 10 needing a, 2,3,3,2 sequence to score with a re-roll. The rolls didn’t come out in the frog’s favor and the ball was on the ground. Zyman the Dancer picked it up and ran into a three prong well guarded cage. The Leap made an effort to get back into a position to stop the Lubbers but the dwarfs were able to pound their way down to get their final touchdown. The Leap was able to set-up a two turn score and make the final more respectable at 2-1.

The key to this game was the brutality that the Lashes Fer Landlubbers showed. By the final kick to the slann they had only six frogs on the pitch. In their first meeting the Lethal Leap won the attrition battle and in the title game the Lubbers did.

A great season of Blood Bowl has been capped off by the Championship of the KUBBL going to Lashes Fer Landlubbers!

CONGRATULATIONS Lashes Fer Landlubbers!

Regis - TD, Comp
Depressa - Comp
Ornata - Casualty
