The South Ulthuan Stormers

Finally found a league near me and decided to do something drastic........... Play Elves instead of my beloved orcs. The group plays LRB5 and here's the team so far:

6 x line elves
2 x blitzers
2 x catchers
1 x thrower
2 x RR
3 x FF

Had the first game with them wednesday and was looking forward to trying some different tactics other than the 2 - 1 grind, not going to lie I had visions of spiralling passes and outrageous plays. Turned out my opponent was playing wood elves, so I thought great loads of touchdowns! Well I was right, I got humped 5 - 1! I don't think I played poorly, I didn't take any stupid risks but what I did do failed miserably. He recieved and scored turn two and then I thought great here we go! Nope turnedover by a wardancer rushes away and scores. Long story short, he was a good player and I was stupidly unlucky, out of all the two dice blocks I threw 16 of them came up as double skull with me down! Ah well frustrating game but on the plus side my thrower got 3 completions, a blitzer scored and I managed to skill bust one of his lineman. Can't wait for my next game Elves are definately a challenge for me!

Speed dude. Elves don't like hanging around.

Score quickly and work out how to steal the ball.

Elves in defence have one target: how to get to the ball carrier and score.

If unable to get to the ball, beat the crap out of a good piece. Thrower, catcher etc.

I remember I played against amazons and my first turn I took out his thrower. Unfortuneatley I was nuffled from then on in (even the coach admitted it)... if a Thrower cannot pick up the ball in 2 turns, or lob the damn thing then the styles goes straight out of the window.

Of course other coaches may disagree with my style. But several coaches have noted my punchy style. :o

Trust me. As a real-life witness, this game didn't fall apart on tactics. Mathias was pretty solid on that count. It pretty much came down to awful dice rolls. A lot of good chances were ruined at the roll of a D6.

Well, maybe you've drained all the bad dice rolls for the next ten years or so...

Theres only so much one can do when playing Blood Bowl, and sometimes no matter how good coach you are, the dice will nail every single play you try to pull, so don't feel too bad, it happens to most of us, once in a while.
Just get back to the pitch and steal a win to your next opponent!
...and let us know about it!
:D
Cheers

So, how'd the rest of the season go? You are not your last game: you are your record.

Hmmmm, forgot I started this! For those who have been following the progress of the Stormers you'll be happy to know that they won their next game 3-1 against orcs! Only down side is that it was their last game in the league as I was unfortunately posted out of the area so was forced to retire.

On the flip side there's a few lads at work that have converted to the TT so I'm running a little league 8 teams in total maybe with some more to add at a later date. Played one game against orcs and lost very badly. Really did learn the hard way that AV7 against a bash team is pretty sucky.

First half they received and caged, funeral marching down the pitch, killing and maiming as they went and scored in turn 8.

Second half I received, stalled for as long as possible (which is really hard with 6 players on the pitch (4 Cas, 1 KO)) then unleashed the quick pass which of course was not caught and the orcs of course ground out a second TD. Bugger.

So after 3 games heres how the Stormers are shaping up;

7 Lineman (1 with -1MA/MNG)
1 Thrower
2 Blitzers (both with dodge 1 MNG)
2 Catchers
Apo

Oh well onward and upwards!

1st Round Scores

South Ulthuan Stormers (Elf) 0 - 2 Badland Bulls (Orc)
Drakenhof Rovers (Necro) 3 - 1 Waldenhof Slayers (Human)
Chaos Undecided (Chaos) 2 - 0 The Gutbusters (Ogre)
Bad Moon Marauders (Gobbo) 2 - 1 Moot Mighties (Halfling)

That was aough game...
Stalling against orcs can be a bit tricky, since you may end up without a team, but as you say, "onward and upward"!
Good luck with for your next game and let us know how it turns out!
Cheers,
A.
