TEAM TANGO - 14th April, Sutton-in-Ashfield, FULL

Post by Wobert »

The original plan was to do two draft events in 2 days but where we were in the calendar, there were just too many other weekend events going on nearby. Instead, we have split them up into two 1 day events in both halves of the year. The first is Team Tango - a team draft event.

In the Team Tango, coaches enter the tournament without a play book to fall back on. They have no idea which team they will lead in each round or what skills that team has. Therefore, coaches must be able to be as adaptable as possible if they are to survive the merry go around and take the title in the Team Tango.

COST
The event will cost £15 (PayPal ajpring@hotmail.com). This covers table hire and the prizes on offer – see below. This does not cover food and drink. However, Sanctuary Gaming offers a great selection of drinks and sugary snacks and there are plenty of fast food places nearby.

SCHEDULE
9:00am - 9:30am - Avengers Assemble
9:30am - 9:45am - Round 1 draft
9:45am -12:15pm - Round 1 match
12:15pm -12:45pm - Lunch
12:45pm - 1:00pm - Round 2 draft
1:00pm -3:30pm - Round 2 match
3:30pm - 4:00pm - Break
4:15pm - 4:30pm - Round 3 draft
4:30pm - 6:30pm - Round 3 match
6:30pm-6:45pm – Awards

This is a resurrection event so your team will reset after each game, ignoring any injuries suffered.

THE DRAFT
The Tango is draft style tournament, but instead of drafting players or star players you are drafting teams. On the day all of the teams and a team sheet for each will be provided. There will be one of each of the official GW teams (including the teams of legend) provided and the Slann team. There will be two human teams included to bring the total to 30. In the unlikely GW release something unexpected before the event, one of the human teams will be replaced. Attending coaches don’t need to carry out any preparation other than bring with them dice, reroll / turn / score markers and a winning attitude!

For round 1 the coach draw is done at random as usual. The coaches randomly drawn on the bottom table will then get the chance to select which team they would like to play. Coaches will decide at the same time so as not to be able to outsmart each other. When they have picked, the coaches on the next table get to pick and then the table after that etc. If both coaches pick the same team, neither can have that team and they must pick again.

For round 2 and 3 its pretty similar, we start with the two coaches on the bottom table. They get to pick their teams first, then the second bottom table etc. Leaving the top table with just whichever team is left. You cannot pick the same team twice in the event, each round you must play someone different.

TEAM CREATION
Team creation is done for you. The rosters will be available before the day for you to peruse and make a short list of possible choices. There will be a couple of basic rules followed for all rosters –
• Every team will have a minimum of one of each positional
• All teams TV will be just 1 million

SKILLS
You might be thinking that you don’t need to worry about skills . . . . but you’d be wrong! Team Tango is a tournament of communal team building. Each round you get to add one or more skills to the team and they remain with the team for the next person to use. So by round 3 you will be using a team that two other coaches have helped to build.

Each round you will have a choice . . . . do you play it safe or do you take a gamble. If you play it safe then you can add one primary skill of your choice to a player of your choice.

Should you choose to gamble however, you can roll on the table below to add 2 skills to two different players on your team. If you choose this option, you select the player first and then roll the dice.

1 – Uh oh . . . . . nega-trait time. Roll a d6 and give the player one of the following (1. Animal Savagery 2. Blood Lust 3. Bonehead, 4. Loner (4+), 5. Really Stupid 6. Take Root)
2 – Nothing
3 – Primary skill of your choice
4 – Primary skill of your choice
5 – Mutation skill of your choice
6 – Mutation skill of your choice
7 – Secondary skill of your choice
8 – Bonus trait! Roll a d6 and add the following trait to the player (1. Regeneration, 2. Chainsaw & Secret Weapon, 3. Hypnotic Gaze, 4. Pogo Stick, 5. Stab, 6. Throw Team mate)

GLITTERING PRIZES
There will be medals for the winners of the following –
• Winner
• Runner Up
• 3rd place
• Most Casualties
• Most Touchdowns
• Winning Race (which team had the best results
• Rookie Wonder
• Wooden Spoon

The tiebreakers are –
• Head to head results
• Average tier of teams used
• Strength of Schedule
• Combined touchdown and casualty difference

Unlike normal, there will be no free swag at this tournament for entry. Instead, there will be a lot of GW teams to be handed out to the winners or the above.

Great tournament! Very well run, plenty of free swag, all 30 BB teams in action and some fun rules. The High Elf team with 2 X Hypno Gaze should probably remain a one off however
