BBQ Bowl 2 - June 23rd 2018 - Wokingham

Post by waddywoos »

Master Chef Inderol and Commisioner Waddywoos are pleased to present the second annual BBQ Bowl tournament, now with NAF approval!

TL;DR version - this is a 3 game, NAF approved, 1 day tournament using the 2019 World Cup team creation rules being held under gazebos outside with plenty of BBQ food in Wokingham, UK on 23rd June 2018.

The rules pack linked here explains all... I have also copied the contents into this post for anyone not wanting/able to download the PDF. The formatting for the team creation makes it tricky to post here, I recommend viewing in the PDF if possible.
BBQ Bowl 2018 Rulepack.pdf
Welcome Blood Bowl coaches to the second annual BBQ Bowl tournament! This post is intended to provide the information which you will require to prepare for and participate in the event. We recognise that it is not possible to be totally comprehensive and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Please post and queries on the Facebook event page so others may also benefit from the answer given.

You may notice the team creation rules in this rulepack seem familiar. It unashamedly borrows heavily from the Dornbirn 2019 World Cup rulepack and is intended to give attendees a flavor of what participating in the World Cup would be like as well as an early chance to think about roster combinations.

VENUE
Address
19 Gorrick Square,
Wokingham,
Berkshire
RG41 2PA

The venue is the residence of our esteemed host, Joe Allen (Inderol), so don’t be surprised to see a house!

Parking
Free parking is available in abundance on the grass at the front of the property.

Public Transport
Wokingham train station is approximately a 20min walk from the venue. Taking the train is encouraged (to allow for the free flowing of beer!) and the organisers are happy to shuttle attendees between the station and the venue if required. Please post on the Facebook event to arrange this. https://www.facebook.com/events/182972129004762/

As the name of the event alludes to the venue of this event is outdoors in the garden. British weather being unpredictable, we recommend you bring along a jumper should it be nippy. Whilst every precaution will be taken by providing gazebos etc. to ward off any rain showers, it is possible that particularly inclement weather will force a cancellation of the event. If this occurs, as much notice will be given as possible and a full refund will be issued.

COSTS AND CONTACTS
The ticket price is £10 for all NAF members, £15 for non-NAF. This covers your entry to the tournament, free dice, plus a generous amount of BBQ related food for lunch (let us know in advance if you have dietary requirements). Please bring your own soft & alcoholic beverages. The initial ticket allocation is 20 spaces, assigned on a first come, first served basis upon payment.

Payment can be made via PayPal to waddywoos@hotmail.co.uk – when doing so please do the following things:
• Pay via ‘friends and family’
• Add your name (and NAF coach name) to the notes

If you wish to pay by other means or have any questions on this, please contact Nat on facebook or email waddywoos@hotmail.co.uk
For any issues on the day please call Nat on 07429 495069

SCHEDULE
09:30 Registration opens
10:30 Game 1
12:45 BBQ is served!
13:45 Game 2
16:00 Game 3
18:30 Prizegiving

SCORING

The tournament is comprised of three rounds in a standard Swiss-style resurrection format.

The full February 2017 NAF guidance is being followed, so piling on doesn’t require a re-roll, human catchers are 60k etc. The document is available to view here: https://www.thenaf.net/wp-content/uploa ... sFeb17.pdf

Criteria
50 points for a win
25 points for a draw
5 points for a loss
0 points for conceding
3 bonus points will be awarded for each touchdown scored (Max 9pts)
2 bonus points will be awarded for each Casualty scored (Max 6pts)
1 bonus point will be awarded if you keep a clean sheet.

For bonus purposes, a Casualty is any result of 10+ on the Injury roll (9+ for Stunty players) resulting from a block, secret weapon, crowd push or foul. Failed dodges, GFIs, throw a rock kick-off results etc. do not count.

Tiebreakers will be TD differential, CAS differential, total TDs then total CAS.

In the event of a concession, the non-conceding player will be assigned a 2-0, 2-0 win (unless already better than that), regardless of the score at that point. Note that concessions are frowned upon in tabletop play.

DICE & EQUIPMENT
You will of course need a team to participate in the event. There is no painting requirement, but efforts made in this area are appreciated. Positions and skills should be clearly indicated, whether this is by base colour, skill rings etc. is up to you.
In addition you should bring a pitch, dugout, templates, dice and a completed roster sheet.

On the topic of dice:
• Agree what constitutes a cocked dice before the game begins
• Make clear what each face of your dice means if they are not ‘standard’
• If either coach wishes to share dice then this must be accepted

ROSTERS
No rosters need to be submitted prior to the event, although it would be particularly helpful if you could let us know (via Facebook) what race you are intending to play. This can still be changed up until the 1st round is drawn on the day, but will greatly assist in getting the tournament started on time.

TEAM CREATION
In order to reduce the unbalancing between the different races will be divided into four tiers.
Tier 1: Amazons, Bretonnians, Chaos Dwarves, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Lizardmen, Norse, Orcs, Skaven, Undead, Wood Elves
Tier 2: Chaos Renegades, Elf Union, High Elves, Humans, Khemri, Necromantic
Tier 3: Daemons of Khorne, Chaos, Nurgle’s Rotters, Slann, Underworld Denizens, Vampires
Tier 4: Goblins, Halflings, Ogres

The teams eligible for Stunty Cup consideration are: Halflings, Ogres, Goblins, Underworld (with no Skaven) and Lizardmen (with no Saurus).

Teams will be built and will be assigned improvements (additional skills or stat upgrades) according to their placement in the tier system above. The composition of all teams and all improvements to be taken must be listed on your team roster.

Team Building
Coaches must spend a maximum of 1,100,000 gold pieces when building their team. When building your team, you may buy:
• At least 11 standard roster players before any star player
• 0-8 Re-Rolls
• Assistant coaches
• Cheerleaders
• Apothecary or Igor, depending on race
• 0-9 Fan Factor
• Inducements. The cost will be as following and will count for all 3 games:
o 0-2 Bloodweiser Kegs for 50,000 gp each
o 0-3 Bribes for 100,000 gp each, for Goblins only for 50,000 gp each
o Masterchef for 300,000 gp, for Halflings only 100,000 gp
o NAF-approved star players for their regular cost

Wizards, (in)famous coaching staff and/or Special Play Cards are explicitly not allowed.

Skill Cash
Each team receives additional funding based on their tier. Starting cash must be used for team building only and skill cash on skills only – no mingling!
Tier Starting Cash Skill Cash Total Cash
1 1,100,000 60,000 1,160,000
2 1,100,000 100,000 1,200,000
3 1,100,000 150,000 1,250,000
4 1,100,000 150,000 1,250,000
• A ‘normal’ skill costs 20,000 gp
• A ‘double’ skill costs 30,000 gp
o Tiers 1-3 are limited to one double skill during the tournament
o Tier 4 may have more than one double skill
• Your roster can have one player that has two additional skills. Both skills must be normal skills and the second skill has a cost of 30,000 gold pieces.
• Tier 4 may buy a single stat upgrade. This cannot be combined with any other additional skill.
o + MA / AV costs 40,000 gold pieces,
o + AG 50,000 gold pieces and
o + ST 60,000 gold pieces.
• Star players may not receive additional skills or stat upgrades

To be clear, all gold left unspent during team construction is lost and does not carry over to your budget to buy skills and vice versa.

SPORTSMANSHIP
It is assumed that all coaches are playing to have fun and also to win, so please place nice and try your best at all times. The tournament organizer reserves the right to have a word with any coach judged to be behaving contrary to these guidelines.

PRIZES
The following awards will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament:
BBQ Bowl Champion
BBQ Bowl Runner Up
Most Touchdowns
Most Casualties
Wooden Spoon
Best Painted Team
If 3 or more Stunty Cup eligible teams participate, a Stunty Cup award.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.
Bribe level: good coffee.
