And don't say that the three teams are "official" because the BBRC endorsed them. If that were the case then the Bank would be official too.
Unlike the Bank, the three teams are fully endorsed by Jervis Johnson himself and the BBRC, they were not included just for lack of proper GW models to represent them, a very futile reason.
Since lack of proper models is not related to rules or gameplay we may consider them official in my opinion.
My problem with the three teams is that they are bad designed rosters, but this is another topic.

At the end of the day, what you are basically doing is to use logical arguments to overpass GW's CRP.

That is precisely what is proposed by people defending a BBRC2: Trustable, well accepted group of experienced players taking decissions like such. They would have precisely the same power to implement a LRB 7.0 than to approve the 3 teams.

GW owns the IP but we can safely say that the spirit of the game and of the rules are represented by JJ and BBRC.
We know that GW didn't allow the teams just for the lack of models reason.

I just wrote an e-mail to the GW customer service in the UK.
My E-Mail wrote:Hey guys,
I am part of the "still alive and kicking" Blood Bowl community. As far as I know, Blood Bowl, along with all other specialist games, has practically been abandoned by Games Workshop. Still, the community tries to keep the boardgame alive.

Back in the days, the BBRC (Blood Bowl Rules Commitee) used to publish updated rules, called the LRB (Living Rule Book). They did so until they were canceled, leaving us with version 6 of the rules. A lot of people think that those rules should be kept alive. So we wondered who might have the rights to think about rule changes today. Since Cyanide is preparing to launch Blood Bowl II for computer/consoles, a lot of people have noticed some changes to the rules for the computergame, like adding a Bretonnian roster, dropping the skill Pass Block and so on.

Now we start to wonder if these changes were made by Cyanide or if the rule changes made by them should also be considered the now official rules for the boardgame as well? Or maybe is there a way to get permission to form a new, community driven, BBRC?

We're worried that the community will be broken into countless houseruled fractions and the game will be left with no official rules.

Thanks in advance for your, hopefully enlightening, answer.

Best regards,

Regash
And this is what GW answered:

Thanks for the Email - I can see that you are very passionate about Blood Bowl - as regards the rights I'm afraid I only have the following information -

Regarding our Intellectual Property-

Kind Regards,

There's a few points here. You can't blame GW for looking at extra races commercially, or eventually dropping the game. If they produced a free ruleset, how much money would you spend or need to spend on GW products?

Figures there are a host of 3rd party figure companies that pay nothing to GW. Fields and range rulers, I'd definitely go with ff fields and dice........well every monkey and his brother makes a range of dice.... So if they allowed the 3 new races with no figure range and other companies paying no royalties making the figures what do they get? If they brought BB back with an LRB ruleset what do they get?

From their point of view there's no reason to promote the game or make a new boxset. I think the only possible way the would entertain it (and this is pure conjecture) is if the NAF band 3rd party products, which was the problem with hosting tournies at warhammer world.

The other point is what rules are official? The last ruleset GW promoted was ......4th edition? This (or something like it) was the ruleset in the final boxsets, not CRP, lrb 6, 5 or 5+. So I think from this point of view we need to use a little maturity and what is best is best, not well this supersedes that and that isn't endorsed etc.

For me, the 3 extra races (and I know a lot disagree) are some of the best work the BBRC ever did.

What did you expect from Customer Service?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

As far as I now, but I may be mistaken, the CRP is the last official rule set from the BBRC.
With or without the 3 new teams, I just don't know.

Well, when ever I ask one or more questions, I expect one or more answers.
That's why I gave negative feedback on this "answer" with the comment that it didn't answer any of my questions. :orc:

Last printed was LRB1 or 2 iirc, but the CRP was posted for many years on their website as the official rules, and was used (and linked) as such for the BBGT, so there's no doubt that the CRP was/is the official ruleset.
