Amazons and Star Players

Post by Vanguard »

In a 1.1M Tournament setting, which star players are worth considering and what would the rest of your roster look like?

The core of the team would generally be:

4 x Blitzers
1 x Thrower
1 x Catcher
5 x Linewomen
For a total of 750k

That leaves 350k:
3 x Rerolls
1 x Apo
1 x Willow Rosebark

OR

2 x Rerolls
1 x Roxanna Darknail

OR

2 x Rerolls
1 x Zara the Slayer
(and you'd have to drop a thrower/catcher for linewoman)

Willow gives the Amazons a bit of defence against big guys with S4 and Dauntless. Sidestep can also be good for keeping tacklezones where you need them.

Roxanna is a serious scoring threat with MV8 and AG5. Lot of TV to sink into a AV7 player.

Zara is a better option against big guys with S4, Dauntless and Block. I'm not convinced by Stab as it's very hit and miss, but can work well against Blodgers as the odds of success are still usually higher.

However, dropping to two re-rolls for Roxanna or Zara, I think I'd find that very tight. What are your thoughts?

What is the skill package like and can you take other inducements?

If you can get things like leader or sure hands then that would reduce your need for re-rolls as 2 is quite low.

I'm not sure if any of those stars are worth it, possibly Willow as LOS fodder, but she's only slightly more survivable than a linewoman.

It was more of a general question rather than for a specific tournament, so I'd assume a standard 6 skills or 5+1 double package.
In previous tournaments I’ve felt that you can really get an Amazon team in 1M, so you’re not getting value for money in a 1.1M tournament. So I was looking for an alternative build that might make better use of the budget.
(Yes, I’m well aware that Amazons are already top tier and I shouldn’t be complaining. :D )

I've seen Zara at various tournaments, and she really gives an edge to Amazon teams. Mostly they play with 4 blitzers, 6 linies (or 7 when 11 standard players are obligatory), Zara and RR.

can't tell you much about the others, haven't seen them in action. But Zara rocks, that's for sure.

Roxana is outstanding in tournaments, I have played against her a number of times.

On offense, she threatens to surf an opposition player every turn (you run a sideline cage). On defense she also threatens to surf players, but equally threatens to push the ball carrier into nasty places. In a scramble she is great, she often ends up with the ball.

Her speed is of great use to a team on which all other players are MA6 (the greatest weakness of the 'Zon team IMO).

Hope that helps.
