Simyan Models?

Post by kdwv »

I was wondering if anyone can help me with models that could be used for a simyan team. I have been searching and found the impact minitures, their silverback, chimps, and orangutans are great. But not a fan of the gorillas. Everything I have found that could work is out for this team is out of print:
* obelisk miniature killer apes for gorillas https://shop.strato.de/epages/61074886. ... tring=lord )
* megamini's chimps which I saw in someones Tarzan project (these could have made great bonobos http://www.matakishi.com/tarzanproject.htm)
* Pulp figures gorillas (https://pulpfigures.com/products/view/183)

I have found this model which i think would make a better silver back imo - http://www.dark-art-studios.co.uk/dark- ... cts_id=117
These could make good standard gorillas however both models are identical so has little varience for the team - http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/animals/african

So in short if anyone has a good suggestion for gorillas or bonobos (for these i think i might use impacts gibbon and baboon minis if nothing comes up). If no great options for gorillas might have to go 2 impact silver backs and 2 foundry gorillas.

I am aware of reaper mini options but wasn't too taken by them.

Thanks for any help if people have suggestions.

The Simyin were actually designed to work with this set of models:

http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.p ... id=TC_AWT1

(just to make it explicit which set in particular).

If you're after alternative gorillas I'd suggest checking out fantasy flight's Axis Gorillas:

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/p ... expansion/

As an added bonus they tie in with Reaper's bones big guy "Ape-X" (who's a hand swap away from making a very decent Silverback)

https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/ape/latest/80001

Plus if you were after ideas for an alt orang-utan:

There is a german company called Schleich that is famous for their animal figurines, I'm not sure about size or different models, though.

cheers for the suggestions, unfortunately the axis gorillas are out of stock and cant find them with another company. The GW models is nice food for thought.

Alright, a bit more left field.

Depending on what it is about the gorillas you aren't into, could you use their heads on something like, say, these Necrom black orcs?

Britains, the company that makes (or made) scale farm animals and vehicles, used to have a range of zoo animals that would be the right sort of scale, but I've no idea whether they still do them.

Early Learning Centre might have something suitable (they have the Schleich range mentioned above): http://www.elc.co.uk/on/demandware.stor ... arm%20toys

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I just took a look but "Great size for little hands and big imaginations" doesn't sound like a suitable scale for Blood Bowl, i'm afraid.

Ah that is good food for thought!

Cheers for the other suggestions as well, however I got an e-mail about the axis gorilla minis from the company. They said they will be recast in autumn. So could save my wallet for the time being. However still be up for more suggestions. With the axis gorillas the GW orangutan seams like it would fit well.

I always thought this "Snow Troll" is a much better Gorilla:

I think it would pass pretty well, bar the stance. However going a Yeti rout for the large minis like the gorillas is also a possibility.
