Questions for a Q&A about the new rules - please contribute

Post by Babs »

I'm extremely pleased that Andy Hoare plans to answer this series of questions to clarify the new rules.
I am personally thankful for his approach to supporting the new rules and engaging with us the players/customers/coaches/fans/unwashed heathens. I am impressed with this approach - it feels 'fresh' and contrasting to the era that came after the generous support days of Jervis being involved from Specialist Games.

Post here with a question that you feel needs answering. Please also chime in (quoting the question) if you feel this is already clearly answered.
(This has been edited twice to add suggestions from TFF and Ausbowl)

In a Friendly game:
* Do Deaths and other Casualty Table injuries count permanently on a team or do the players 'just go into the Dead and Injured box and not return for this game' as specifically written elsewhere in Deathzone?
* Is it correct that Star Player Points are not accrued in Friendly games?
* Do friendly games count as the game players sit out if they are suffering a MNG injury?
* Do you roll for Fan Factor after a friendly game?

In between seasons:
* Was there a range of season length that was considered appropriate under the Funds Raiding/Team Rebuy rules?
* Is there an optimal TV range that you are looking for teams to balance out at?
* What price do rerolls cost (single price or double) when rebuilding? Do they carry over or do they need to be rebought?
* Do coaching staff / apothecaries need to be repurchased? I understand that Assistant Coaches can be gathered for free by releasing 'want to retire' players.
* Must a coach ensure that a rebuilt team begins with 11 player or more at the beginning of a new season?
* During re-drafting what happens if you raise more funds than your current team value?
* Do players that want to retire, still want to when a new season begins. Or do you roll for retire at each season? (Or, phrased another way, is there a way a player can change their mind and no longer wish to retire?)
* Can you bank the extra money raised in your treasury?
* Do casualties caused by a foul, or by the crowd (or a Special Play card, etc.) count 5,000 gold towards rebuilding the team?
To understand the circumstances where a casualty is caused, those involved in this question:
Within your control
- CAS inflicted by your team during a block which earn SPP (clearly documented)
- CAS inflicted by your team during a block which do not earn SPP (Chainsaw, stab, star players,)
- CAS actively inflicted by your team but not during a block (diving tackle, crowd surf, wizard {when that is in}, cards, foul)

within your influence... (I doubt it but some people argue they "made" me GFI)
- CAS self-inflicted by the other team [not skulls on block]: (failed dodge, failed GFI, failed landing, chainsaw kickback, goblin snack)

outside of your influence
- CAS inflicted by no team in particular (Kick off events, cards)

Wood Elf Roster:

Is the cost of Wood Elf Linemen meant to be 70,000?

Skaven Roster:
Was the Rat Ogre meant to be left off in the team list included with the Skavenblight Scramblers? If so, which is correct - that in the boxed set, or that in Deathzone Season One?

Pre-Game:
* Is it really meant that adding treasury to purchase inducements can result in an 'unbalanced' game? (ie. the team with treasury has a bonus against the team without)
* Who chooses inducements first if TV is equal?

Skills and effects in game:
* Does a failed loner roll to use Piling On place the player prone?
* Is the description of passing on page 7 of the Blood Bowl rulebook meant to read with the same intent as the version on page 18?
* Is Wrestle meant to be worded as per the CRP, or is wrestling the opposing ball carrier meant to cause a turnover?
* Can you argue the call on a failed bribe roll?
* Which do you roll for first during a foul action, using a bribe or arguing the call by your head coach?
* Does the effect of the 'Magic Sponge' Special Play card only last that game, or permanently remove the injury?

Rulebook:

* Do you plan to collate all the rules into one document, rather than the current five places to look? (Blood Bowl rulebook, Deathzone Season one, Errata, Teams of Legend, Q&A)

If I may add something:

During re-drafting what happens if you raise more funds than your current team value?
Can you bank the extra money raised in your treasury? Does the extra amount get removed? Something else?

Cheers,
Michael

Babs,

Do not need to add a question on the Passing Ruler (how it works) or Wrestle. Andy already confirmed that both work like the CRP and the wording in the books was a print error.

[Edit, error, wrong question]

If you want a question... who decided to use a background for the pages that makes reading harder?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

These have been clearly answered, have they not?
Second two.
Last two.

As for the first one, deaths are mentioned in the post-match sequence (removing dead players from the roster) and permanent casualties are described as having an effect on the team roster in the casualty table.

Will this be corrected in yet another Errata?

I'm starting to wish that GW would reprint and replace my now inaccurate deathzone copy

I still think your initial questions are all answered in the rules I agree they are not clear.

Quetion 1
The difference between friendly and competative matches? They are not well defined.
My understanding.
Friendly game has no SPP at all; D3 instead of D6 winnings.
Everything else, Fans, Deaths, et al is the same as competative games?

Quetion 2
Post Match Sequence (page 24) Section 2 - Update team Stats
Add Cas to Casualties section - only count if they qualified towars earning SPP as per page 21. Which says has to be a competive match and not foul, stab, ect.

Therefore as written you get zero team cas in a friendly match as you cannot earn SPP and thus none of your casualties count? Is that intended?

Quetion 3
The wording on Magic Sponge no longer says heal the player. If a player is moved to reserves who is dead are they still dead at the end of the game? If they have -AG or other stat bust it that in effect for the rest of the match and do they miss the next game?

I think it's still worth asking something along the lines of what I've phrased, as the key word is _clearly_.

I still find the arrangement for Friendly games odd to say the least, unless SPP's are meant to count.

Can the first post be updated with the questions you are going to put forward? So we don't duplicate effort.

You can't be serious about this one. I mean, I agree it needs a clarification because it's clearly a misprint, but you can't serious ask the question if they are meant to be 70k. They have been 70k since 1994 when the 3rd Edition came out. If they were changed to 7k, it would be the only instance of a player with a price that isn't a multiple of 10,000; Wood Elves would become the only team which would field a full 16 4 AG players and could max out all position players in the starting 1million; and balance would be irreparably ruined, resulting in leagues of nothing but Wood Elves.

Let's not dignify this one as a legitimate question.

Well, they haven't errata'd it yet, along with the stuff Tom says Andy says is a misprint.

Maybe if they get given a "all-in-one" list they'll pull their fingers out and get it updated, because they're clearly not in a rush to do so at the moment.

It's being worked on. The first errata was a rush job to try to get something in place for release day. It clearly wasn't sufficient/completely accurate, so before releasing an update to the errata, there's a need to make sure it is as clear, concise and correct as possible. I hope people can understand that. I think it's less confusing, in the long run, to have another week or so go by to get it right than to release Errata B to fix Errata A, and then another Errata C to fix stuff that's left in Errata B, etc.

In other words, please be patient.
