NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s
Has anyone played NAFs StreetBowl & Dungeon7s yet? http://www.thenaf.net/blood-bowl/variants/
Any comments or feedback?
And does anyone have a good picture of how the meta is?
It seems Norse and Amazon are very good teams in both rules since its rosters at 600k.
But I heard Tom Anders comment that Ogre's should be a very good streetbowl team.

Re: NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s
I don't know if I qualify, as I headed the subcommittee that created the current variant documents and performed informal playtesting of them. I'm biased, in other words!
I haven't played Dungeon Sevens at all, as that one was delivered to us in something very similar to its current form by the guys in Adelaide. But I've played lots of Street Bowl, both in tournaments and leagues.
Norse and Amazon are both pretty good given the lack of added skills and rerolls (Amazons are the better of the two), but effective AV6 is as bad as it sounds. On the other hand, wood elves remain competitive despite their low armor because you can start with three AG4 dodgers who are also super fast.
Undead are also still good. You can get two big guys, a blocker, a dodger, and a pretty deep bench for 600k. Nurgle is better than they usually are at low TV because the close quarters make tentacles and disturbing presence more effective. On the other hand, pact and ogres (sorry, Tom) aren't so great because you don't have any rerolls to deal with the negative skills. In the case of ogres, it's all the worse because the snotlings die even more quickly than usual.
Teams like lizards and orcs seem to face the most negative impact because they don't have as much strength advantage as usual. Because of this, many people consider Sevens/Street more balanced than regular BB. I'm not totally sure that's true, but it's refreshing to at least have a slightly different balance.

Re: NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s
Being from Adelaide, I've had the fortune to play in several Dungeon Bowl tournaments using the rule set developed by anc001, which is now the "official" Dungeon Bowl rule set as I understand it.
Having every player with Dodge or Block definitely helps in the Dungeon Bowl rule set, where re-rolls are very limited (and often non-existent). That said, the AV7 can be a big liability when opening chests (as the bombs are treated as having Mighty Blow).
From my experience Skaven are the best race for Dungeon Bowl, especially with Gutter Runners. The general speed of Skaven allows them to open the most chests (and therefore usually get the ball first).
Gutter Runners with MV9, AG4 and Dodge are basically the perfect combo for Dungeon Bowl. With just 2 of them you can move the ball up to 19 spaces with just a 2+ hand off (move 9, hand off to the square next to the GR, move 9). Even with some of the narrow passageways in the dungeon, most teams are going to struggle to cover that wide an area.

Re: NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s
Thanks for the response.
So is there any teams in both NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s that you would group together as a tier 0
like:
Dungeon7s:
Skaven
Amazon
Norse
StreetBowl:
Norse
Amazon
Undead
(Nurgle?)

Beg to differ. Getting 3 Ogres allows you to really road jam the pitch. The only team I've lost to in Street Bowl with my Ogres was a Lizardman team with 3 Block Saurus. So ... I beg to differ on Ogres not doing well.Gaixo wrote:On the other hand, pact and ogres (sorry, Tom) aren't so great because you don't have any rerolls to deal with the negative skills.

I wouldn't characterize Norse as Tier 0. Wood elves would probably replace them for the reasons noted above.Bakunin wrote:Thanks for the response.

There's really not enough data to create conclusive tiers, though. Everything I've written here is just anecdotal observation, albeit influenced by a fair amount of experience.

Re: NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s
It really depends on skills or no skills (i.e. additional skills or 'what they already have').
Ogres CAN be good in streetbowl, if they are allowed a potion. Or 2-3. Quite scary anyway.
Played a few tournaments (10+ games each tournament, tv 600 IIRC) with Orcs, 2 BOBS, 2 Blitzers, Troll, thrower, ... did ok, hard to get off the pitch.
Played a few 'league' games with HElfs. Not too bad.
I like streetbowl. Hard, fast, brutal, lots of fun.
Stray pony!!! Happy hour! Cash in the endzone! Stuff like that makes for legendary games. As long as you dont take everything too seriously.

It should be noted that team building has changed a bit. That orc roster wouldn't be allowed now.

Re: NAF StreetBowl & Dungeon7s
Sure, I'm familiar! He asked about the currently sanctioned rules, though.
I wasn't an immediate fan of the proposed change to the rosters (every team can now take 0-4 "specialists" with no other restrictions) but am glad I gave them a chance. If you get a chance, try a few games using the new rules and see what you think.
