Re: Forge World: Griff Oberwald and Rat Ogre

Post by mikeyc222 »

i pre-ordered both because i want them for the collection and i have no self control, but honestly i am not too big a fan of the new rat ogre. i think i prefer the one from the AoS skaven and high elf boxed set that a number of people have used here. i think the griff is pretty nice and i am also glad he comes with 2 heads. almost $60 for 2 minis after tax and shipping though... ouch.

Lovely models. I'm not paying those prices though.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

Is this the Rat Ogre you're talking about? Sorry, I don't know much about GW minis aside from BB.

That's the one I used, though I think I used a different head. He looks more like a big guy blocker to me. The pose that FW used is interesting, as it looks very feral. Almost like a Tyrannosaurus, attacking everything on the field that gets too close. For now I'm going to pass, but will see if I keep resisting when painted pics start showing up online. I did like the armored plates that they added to his back. That would be a pretty easy custom for the model I'm using. Funny thing, I *almost* sold that mini on Ebay, now I'm glad it didn't happen.

Yea, I have a hard time resisting the "buy it all!" habit. But there is so much coming out now and I would rather have teams than Stars. Which means I'm going to have make some spending choices. A lot of my spending was fueled by things selling out so quickly at the start. It seems like things are more in stock now, so I'm not so worried. On the rat ogre, I can definitely wait and pick it up later if I decide to. I noticed you can usually find the minis on Ebay for cheaper than what you see in the FW/GW online stores too.

Bit bland and featureless for a rat ogre.

I prefer these myself:

It could be worse, Rat Ogre could be carrying the ball. :orc:

@the solitaire: Those are nice, though the head on the rat ogre looks a little weird from that angle.
I looked at the Forgeworld Rat Ogre again, and it is weird that he is completely hairless as well. Not a very impressive mini, especially for the cost.

@Steam Ball: So true! Plus he could be covered head to toe in spikes.

The head on these is pretty much ok. My 20 rat ogres are all boxed up, but I should be able to find one or two of them for better pictures by tomorrow. It's a quarter past midnight now and I'm trying to convince our little baby daughter to finally go to sleep, so pictures of BB stuff (or anything really) have to wait :)

As for Griff

Codpiece needs additional stuffing, and it's a shame there is no helmeted version available ;)

Sorry quick question guys.
So will this be the only Rat Ogre released for the new Skaven Team, or will there be another one which will also be sold on the GW site like the current Ogre for the Human Team?

These prices are a bit mad to be honest and I don't mind paying them for the occasional star player, but would hate seeing future big ones or other positionals been this pricey.

By all reports, most new BB products will be coming through Forge World channels as the new Specialist Games division is a Forge World branch. It sucks, but this is the way it will be moving forward.

Thanks for the quick response.

A pity that someone can't get the Forgeworld stuff delivered to a local GW dealer to save the delivery cost at least.

Hmmm, I have to weight my options in the future now I guess.
I started the new Skaven Team already and always wield a Rat Ogre in my Skaven teams, so I probably will get him (even if I'm not fully convinced of the mini) as he fits well with the new Skaven team design, but I also went for Willy's Ratmen (which IMHO look better).
Guess for any future offcial GW/FW teams, I might wait till they are a bit more complete before I decide to get them as 3rd parties might offer better deals.
Originally as a returning BB player with all my old stuff savely tucked away in my home country, I planned to get all the new GW/FW teams I like.

Anyway, sorry for me rambling away here and getting off topic.
The Star Players look nice though and I will probably get the collection with the Rat Ogre.

My FLGS has stated they can order from forgeworld and if the order is > $100 there will not be a shipping charge. So far the people that order have been so worried (and rightly so) about limited supply that they don't wait to reach $100.
