Alternative IGMEOY Rules.

There always seem to be debate about fouling and dirty player. To me, the 4+ of the ref lacks a bit of consistency. Also, the tactic of refusing to foul to shut down the opposition is a bit boring.

Even though this may be against your personal picture of BB-refs as totally incompetent, I'd like to suggest rules that make the refs a bit more consistent:

There are 2 ref counters. Each is above the "6" square in the TD track.
This signifies the roll needed to spot a foul by that team.
The 2 counters are moved independantly of eachother.

Now, whenever a team fouls, make a spot roll as normal.
If the spot succeeds, the player is sent off as normal - and that's it.
If the spot roll fails, then move the reff counter for the fouling team one square to the left, (i.e. first time it is moved to the "5" square).

The counter can only move left, and is not reset at half time.
This ensures that no team gets off too easy, or gets hit too hard.

How do you like this?
Martin :)

PS - for those of you who love "rationales": The logic behind this is that when a spot roll fails, the ref did in fact see the foul, but didn't consider it too bad. However, it will increase the chance of him having "had enough" next time the team fouls.

Not a bad idea. Get the ref could maybe make it 6+ for winning team as the new ref is afraid of himself.

I like it! Besides, our league doesn't even use the damn TD track (marker gets knocked off the table too often), instead we have scoreboards...

I like the idea of making the ref more vigilant as the game goes on, but perhaps the ref gets moved 1 space closer to 6 at halftime, as if to say the ref is giving the teams a bit of a second chance at halftime, without being stupid and starting over, or starting to call too many fouls too fast. 8)

Hi DesTroy,
not a bad idea. Worth considering.

Oh, and we don't use those score tracks either :D

I like the idea. we will test it today.

you don't use score counters? How could you do that?

perhaps you don't have wood elves or sakven in your leagues.

Hi KLK,
let me know how the testing goes :)

We don't use the score counters because we register TDs in the SPP columns on the roster anyway.
Cheers
