What would you do if someone new to BB (and Wargaming in general) expressed an interest in playing and borrowed some (unpainted) models of another coach? Would you penalise them?

I'm speaking for the minority(?) of people who find painting hard and a chore (and i'm a founding member of that group, which is a major downer if you enjoy playing as I do).

I really, I mean really used to hate painting, but I felt that my minis looked better painted and numbered so I did it. I found that the more you do, the better you get and the more you like it. I am not a great painter now, just so-so, but minis always look better painted. As far as penalizing someone for not painting, I guess I would only do it if it looks like it's going to be a problem. I guess it also depends on who you play with. One league I was in had some people who could paint well and they always criticised anyone's paint job that wasn't up to their standards. Needless to say, there were alot of people not into painting their teams.

I agree it's funnier to play with painted minis. You can use a someone else's painted team.

I agree about the painting point.

I am not so sure about the "correctly represented".
Don't get me wrong. Darkson posted an answer about newbies and I agree with him.

A correctly represented miniature means that if it gets a phisical mutation you will have to modify your mini to represent the new head, fangs and so on... For a newbie, but even for experienced people with few miniatures, this will become a pain. To modify a mini (that's to buy some other to "sacrify" just to take some part) each time it get a new skill!!!

What if that player dies? :pissed:
You have to start again and to hope to "recycle" the old one having the same dice toss...

Just some more flexibility and all will have fun!

I'm really anal about not fielding a team that's painted, but even I would never want to represent a mutation on a miniature. If I got really carried away, I might make an all new miniature just to feature the mutation, but I doubt it.

It is fun to play with painted minis but i will NEVER use this rule.
Some dont like to paint, some dont have time, some want their minis to be painted by other players.
For me, painting stuff is not a tactic thing, so i will not give penalties against unpainted minis.

Longshot : I agree but it's very boring when a Chaos coach uses a mini of beastman as a minotaur and says "it's very easy it's a minotaur cos he has horns." Everyone in his team has horns :x Moreover he use chaos warrior mini for his ogre. :pissed:

OK Marcus, using your rule as suggested at the start of the thread.

"I'm new to your area, don't know many people and have found out about your league. I've played BB before and join to have fun and meet new people. I don't, however, enjoy painting. In fact I hate it. I'm made aware of this club rule from the beginning and splash a bit of paint on a couple of models but that's it, as it's not enjoyable for me.

After 10 games in the league my players only have there starting skills and are being pummeled week in week out by better teams, who may have lower TR than mine, as I still accumalate SPP's but can't use the skills.

Right, bugger this for a lark, I'm of to play M:TG(TM)"

Is this really the sort of attitude we should be fostering? I like to see nicely painted models as much as any coach, but penalising people for not painting their figures is just wrong.

I'm not trying to be personal, but I think this type of attitude stinks. Encourage people to paint by all means (my mate does) but don't put them at a disadvantage just because they don't/won't/can't.

Darkson : You can convince a fanatic painter to paint your minis. For example,if you give/buy me a nice ogre mini, i will paint a whole team :-?
