Home-made star players

Is their a basic formula for making home-made star players, as I looking to include some of the players from our last league as freebooters (we'll all start new teams)?

Is it players cost + (no.of skills * 10000)

or something else?



I knowmost people don't like star players, but it just something I'm considering.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Starting Value
Each player starts with an initial value of 5.

Characteristic Value
Using the ability stats of the Blood Bowl player in question, consult all of the tables above to see what additions or subtractions are made to the initial point value. After you have calculated the player total value continue to the next step.

Skill Value
For every skill and physical mutation that the player starts with (excluding Negative skills) add +2 to the player total value from above. This new total is the value of the player. Continue below to determine his starting price.

Cost in Gold
Now that you have the value of the player you will be able to convert it into a gold price. There are two separate formulas for this determined by the value of the player.


If the value of the player is equal or lower than 10, the cost of the player is:
Value x 10,000 Gold


If the value of the player is higher than 10, the cost of the player is:
100,000 + ((Value - 10) x 5,000) Gold

Testing the Player
Once you have a starting cost, play test it to make sure it's right. This is very important! Never assume that the cost generated by the formulas will be anything other than a starting place. There are too many variables involved in a game for any simple mechanical system like this to generate a 'true' value for a player - the good old 'Mk1 human brain' and a whole bunch of play-testing is what's needed to come even close to such a thing!

In particular, note that some skills are a lot more useful than others. For example, Block could be counted as 1.5 or 2 skills in the above calculations. On the same token, there are other skills which are equally as valuable and some which are worth less.

Examples
Here is an example using the 'less than equal to 10' point value formula:
Black Orc (MA 4, ST 4, AG 2, AV 9, no skills) ~ Using the first formula you should obtain a value of 8 for a cost of 80,000 gold (8 x 10,000) which corresponds to the value given by the basic Blood Bowl rules.

Here is an example of using the 'greater than 10' formula:
Woodelf Wardancer (MA 8, ST 3, AG 4, AV 7, Block, Dodge, Leap) ~ Using the second formula you should obtain a value of 14 for a cost of 120,000 gold
(100,000 + (14 - 10) x 5,000).
