I agree, it isn't logical to base an opinion off of one game. But logic has nothing to do with what happened to him last night. It wasn't logical to fail Really Stupid 4 or 5 times (most of the time somebody was near by). It actually left a bad taste in my mouth. Even Ripper ended up on his butt after a two dice block against my thrower, rerolled (I always give my throwers block ASAP, and it usually pays off). I know it isn't logical, but it is my feeling on the matter.
Five turns spent doing nothing. Three turns getting up or rolling over. That troll ended up spending half of the game taking up space and nothing else. Ugh.

Ummm
Not having played a team with trolls I can't comment, but big guys always come with a down side. In the recent spikey tourney I saw a game in which a Treeman failed to turn up for the first half of the game and then spend most of the second on his woody behind. At the final whistle the halfling spectators booed him off the pitch. In the very next game he killed or injured most of the opposing side.
I suppose it's down to what you want to get out of a match, clean clinical games which you instantly forget or event filled fun fests which you chat to yer fellow BBer's about for months afterwards.
I know what I'd prefer.

Trolls make a lot more sense if you compare them to a Mummy. A troll has almost exactly the same stats as a Mummy, but is a Big Guy. I would say that being Really Stupid and Always Hungry in addition to not being able to use TRR's outweighs the +1 Movement and the ability to throw and eat gobbos.
So are Trolls underpowered, or are Mummies overpowered?

I thought this might stir up some controversy, but I have to say that I didn't think of it from this point of view. You think that the Mummy is underpriced to make up for the deficencies on the Undead roster?

I think the undead team works fine as it is, I can say that about all the main rosters (bar the stunties). They are all balanced faily, if they weren't there would be huge threads about which team is unbalenced, yet the general concensus here is that the teams are fine. I don't think its fair to take a player out of centext of their team and evaluate them like that.

Well, I don't know. The Troll is a big guy, and doesn't really have a home team. The big guys were all costed before TRR's were stripped away from them. I think that this reduces their value on a team. The troll is probably the least valuable of the big guys (unless you have *really* strong feelings about WA). I thought that comparing him to a similar player with his new penalty might be a fun excercise, especially since I have always thought that a Mummy should cost 110K. They are the only "normal" player in the game that starts with stength or agility +2 to the average.

I agree the troll probably is the worst of the big guys, assuming your not getting WA taken advantage of by your opponent. The thread was about taking one or not. The troll may be worse than an ogre, this is refelcted in their price and their stats. However at the end of the day I can't see a really big problem with taking one instead of an ogre for an orc team. Besides my trolls have character, I like having them about, wouldn't be the same without them.

I said yes. There are 2 ways to use a big guy in a normal team. As a safety or on the los. If u want the bg on the los a troll is just the same as an ogre in most cases. If u want the safety or intend to throw lots of gobbos on your orc team then pick the ogre.

I have to say yes as Troll skin makes a nice lining for the team carriage and if the Orc and Gobbo players stop taking them we won't be able to replace it with our next victim.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I voted Yes,
Mainly because I cant be bothered to save up the extra 20k for the Ogre
But it really depends on what you want
If you want something to stand on the line and get hit> A troll is good
Something to Go and try to do something More > An Ogre.
Or dont take any,

On a goblin team, at least one is a must.
On an orc team... bit of a mixed opinion on this one. In a way I can see that people would think it overpowers the orcs....
But in fact it really just takes up one of their slots on the roster by an unreliable player.
Dunno if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the best bet is to whack the players next to him. Then he'll be failing his stupid roll 50% of the time.
Ok so not that easy, but it serves for a player that the opposition coach cannot rely on. And believe me, when a big guy really needs to do something important he always cocks it up...... BUT not to worry I'll just use a RR..... on no hang on...... I won't because I can't!
Personally the lack of RR for big guys adds an interesting element to things. Personally with this rule, on a skaven team I wouldn't even bother with a Rat ogre.
