Opinions about Skaven....?

Post by StylophonePet »

I recently played my first game against a Skaven team
(first time against Skaven, not the first time playing)
Team layout was this:
2 gutter runners
1 storm vermin
1 star player - HeadSplitter
1 rat ogre
6 linemen

1 Re-Roll
9 FanFactor

=> like 5 minutes ago I saw that he cheated, because normal starting team cost is 1000k, he went a little over the edge (like 40k), and we played with new teams

But not considering the error, isn't this a though team?
I sure as @6#!?!9$! thought so, the game ended with 2-1, I lost, and two deaths in my team
Do star players still excist in the New Rules?
And is the Rat Ogre part of experimental rules or is he permanent???
The thought of lining up against this team again makes me feel :puke:

If you play by the current rules (BB2k1/LRB):
1) Star Players can only be freebooted for the duration of a single match (for half their price, that's 80k here) in leagues.
2) To start with one meager reroll, without a thrower and one Storm Vermin only doesn't seem clever to me at all .
3) Wild Animal on a Rookie Rat Ogre can turn out to be a great advantage for you. Or do you play with some kind of Wild Animal light? Are your Big Guys allowed to use Rerolls?
4) Even if your opponent payed the full price for the Star Player (assuming he would hire him permanently) - The line-up would be 990k (actually it's 910k due to the freebooted Rat Ogre) by the current rule set, which apparently wasn't used here.
The thought of lining up against this team makes me feel

The Rat Ogre is an Big Guy ally. Yes, he's perfectly legal. He also a real liability if you're playing Wild animal correctly. Big Guys also do not get to use Team Re-Rolls.

No, His team wasn't legal. Star players can only be freebooted. That's done during the pre-match preparation. A starting team needs to have 11 players. That's before prematch. You can't start a team with 10 players planning on freebooting the 11th. If you should happen to lose someone during the match, though, you're under no obligation to replace him if you don't want to. 11 players is only a rule for a starting roster.

Skaven can be tough to play against. Speed and agility are a great benefit. It sounds like he got lucky in hte casualty dept. A beginning Skaven team just doesn't have much to help them out in that area. Only one player with Block and 2 ST2 players can't help much. Once they're developed, though, they can be sharp as razors. They're still fragile though.

A Star Player on a beginning team may have skewed the results on this game and I'd be willing to bet you guys weren't playing the WA properly. Either that or you didn't leave a sacrificial lamb on him to cause the inevitable turnovers.

My Math works that out as tr 99 with 10k still in the bank. Seems like he's played Headsplitter at full cost instead of freebooting him, And then lost him at the end of the game.

There was a serious mix-up with the rules, he was combining 3rd ed with 4th ed rules

Oh btw, I made a little miscalculation on the team cost, thanks for the reminder
Playing this guy is impossible, it's like he only rolls 6' .....maybe something wrong with the dice?
Oh, so Skaven is not supposed to play in a clan? Does that mean Chaos clan is not supposed to play in clan either?
And for as far as my casualties go, he just loved pushing my men into the crowd
The only thing I could comfort myself with, was the fact that every drive half of his team was in the knocked out box...
Maybe I should consider another career, seems like I have a habit of rolling bad numbers

I haven't had the time to read the LRB for BB
So is the Rat Ogre player is a freebooter or a normal player?

And to answer your questions Mirascael, the rolls for wild animal were done correctly, but he was a lucky roller, and no the Rat Ogre was not allowed to use Re-Rolls

Sorry for the stupid topic

Not if each of its six sides featured the number "6" :D

Clan? :o
What are you talking about?

You know that players can only be pushed into the crowd when there's no other possibility?

Rat Ogres are allies that are purchased normally but can't use re-rolls. Star Players can only be freebooted (this includes Headsplitter). BTW, star players don't count towards the team's limit of any position player, eg the SP rat ogre Headsplitter can be freebooted and doesn't count towards the team's limit of one rat ogre (because he is a star player), so you could also buy a rookie RO as well (if you have enough money). Hope that is clear.

Tip when playing Frenzied opponents.

Keep AWAY from the sidelines so he can't push you off.

On the other hand it's a nice tactik to get his Rat Ogre next to the sideline.

I killed one once this way (Or actually the crowd did that)

It's amazing how often I forget about Fenzy, then get rudely reminded...
