Follow up on Warhammer poll
The question says it all. I'm just curious about whether Blood Bowl is a good gateway for Warhammer or the opposite holds more true.

I actually can't remember which came first. I think that it was the old 40K Rogue Trader rulebook, then it was a toss up between BB or Dark Future. (The first WD I bought (104) featured both the Big Guy rules from Star players and a great DF Redd Harvest interview with some wonderful Carl Critchlow art).
IIRC I'd decided on DF but for some reason (DF out of stock?) I walked out with BB. Back then both games were £19.99 and you could buy 2 (!) Land Raiders for £12.99.
All of which is largely irrelevent to what you're trying to ascertain, but thanks for making me feel old anyway....

We had a gaming club at school - back in the days of Vortex and Virus grenades in 40k. I remember one of my mates losing half his IG army to a single Virus grenade, and a Skaven army getting pretty much entirely routed in a 4 player WFB game when a Goblin unit on his side lost their bottle.
I remember playing a Chaos army with lots of bits of card instead of figures.
I remember the old Realm of Chaos books.
I remember at least some of the stuff Woody just mentioned (remember the days when WD had an events calender for each store? and each store had a resident BB expert?). God I feel old (and I'm ten years younger than him...

I played warhammer fantasy first, started buying white dwarf and couldn't resist getting bloodbowl when it came out. Start of 3rd ed. Mind you i bought a number of GW's specialist games as they are now called, necromunda, BFG, epic, but fantasy and bloodbowl are the only ones i continus to play

Started 40k with Rogue Trader, WD from issue 100, got into BB 2nd ed., fell out for 3rd ed, started again with LRB (and PBeM - thank god!).

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
