There's not much worth crusading for except new miniatures from GW or other companies. We can all play the game however we like in our own leagues or groups. No need at all for consensus on the rules except in that paradigm. The fact that we can now all communicate online doesn't really change that we'll still be playing people only in our local area, at least until someone programs BB to be like Laser Squad Nemesis, but then that will be a computer game of BB and no longer the board game.

That's not blood bowl. That's computer blood bowl. There are no miniatures. Blood bowl is a board game. If I'm going to play a computer game it's going to be Warcraft 3 or Quake.
Except for finding the "Modest Proposal" rules and now the yearly rules 'upgrades' none of that stuff has any effect on our local leagues.

Except that all the things Zombie mentioned above work the exact same way a local league does, except it's played online. What you're talking about and what Zombie is talking about are not the same things. JavaBowl, PBEM, et al, are not computer games. They are board games that happen to be played online. There is a difference.littlemute wrote:That's not blood bowl. That's computer blood bowl. There are no miniatures. Blood bowl is a board game. Besides, all the yearly "upgrades" to the LRB come from discussion just like this one. I, personally, like these kinds of discussions, as they allow me to steal cool ideas for my own league.

Oh, I wanted to jump on a bandwagon here, too, and add a crusade to my list. I think that Interceptions should be made AFTER the pass roll, not before.

The last two things i mentioned, namely the Blood Bowl and the NAF, have absolutely nothing to do with computers at all.littlemute wrote:That's not blood bowl. That's computer blood bowl. I've played people online and then gone on to meet them and play them in person. Conversely, I've met and played people in person and then happened to be drawn against them online. Online, the social interaction *is* real, it's not virtual. Not the same animal, agreed, but certainly the same species, same game, and a lot of fun to boot.littlemute wrote:A board game that's played online? That's not a board game at all!!! Like I said there are no miniatures, there's no board and there's no real social interaction as in a league night with real people, real arguements between players, real blood bowl. Different animal entirely.
I play against people all over the world online, and I travel internationally (as many others do) to play in tournaments too. So while I'm all for local tabletop leagues house ruling to suit their coaches, a common basic ruleset is not only desirable but fundamental, especially if you're going to be playing people who speak a different language. So yeah, for the ever-increasing amount of us with broader horizons than the microcosm of our local leagues/areas it's pretty important.
Good ideas that improve the game will improve it wherever you are in the world.
