Its a perfectly valid tactic, but really dull to play against.

However I played a game the other week when my opponent tried to run the clock down for the draw. I 1/2 dice blocked him, pushed him into the endzone to equalise, but gave myself 2 turns to win - which against the odds I did. :D

So be careful.

lol Nice counter Ian! I will remember that tactic. It will certainly come in handy somewhere down the line.

I totally agree that this is a legal tactic, but I wonder how many coaches that say it is ethical/legal/valid were the same coaches that think throwing a foul is lame (unless it's strategic)? perhaps none of you feel this way, in which case you are the coaches I need to be hanging out with. :D

I see very little difference between goal hanging to limit the amount of turns your opponent has to score and mugging the other guy's team so that they become less effective later in the game (ie being less able to score because 3/4 of his team is in the injured box).

PS - I usually will also call Illegal Procedure and laugh at my opponent. Now everyone guns for me big time, which is great. No one wants to be caught by me, and they all want to catch me on it! Is that bad?

Its a great tactic and it is well suited to your skills. Ball control and "clock" control neutralizes the opponents' speed. He can't score if he doesn't have the ball. So, in a sense, your best Defense is your grind it out offense. It's really not a secret game plan going in, so the opposing coach should try to develop tactics to disrupt your ability to kill turns.

As far as fouling, I believe it has a very strategic place in the game. The player who risks an ejection in exchange for putting a key player out of the game is using the fouling art efficiently. The one who is only out for blood and fouls indiscriminately leaves himself open for humiliation on the scoreboard. :smoking:

As someone said on the poll about this, do the same people moan about unethical plays when soomeone pulls off a one-turner against them.

Both fair tactics, and I've no problem doing or receiving either of them.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Hitting and slow teams grind and fast teams want to score as quickly as possible. Not playing a team's strengths and your opponents weaknesses will not result in many wins. If they can't break a cage in 7 turns that's just bad defence.
However, I do think it's bad form/unsportsman-like/etc. to sit on the ball when half the other team is stunned/KOed/injured and they only have afew players on the field. Its just mean to hold the ball and pound someone for more casualties before you walk into the endzone when they have no chance to hit you back. Unless they have a 1 turn scorer, in which case I'd hold the ball and pound as many players as I could.

The complainers have clearly never been involed in American football. Clock management is a huge part of NFL play just like in BB. Like the other guy said, crying wont knock you down. If you don't like it, quit playing elves.

I hate watching Skaven one turn score on me, or WEs leaping about and dodging around with no way for me to stop them...do I cry? No. I bash their effeminate little heads together. Standing at the goal line is valid.

It's perfectly right to play that way and the best way to win with dwarves and the like. If you play dwarves differently, then you're not playing them right.

Controlling the pace of the game is one of the keys to winning. If they like to play fast and loose, play slow and tight. If they like to march slowly down the pitch, don't let them consolidate, break up the play and move the ball around.

If my opponent is doing everything within the rules to win then fair play to them.

Perfectly legit. the only ones who moan about it are those are aren't tactically minded enough to break down or stop the cage from getting to a scoring position.

I'll be doing exactly the same thing in tournaments i play, and i expect opponents to do the same to me. Except i'll probably ewin 1-0 then instead of 2-1

It seems like a perfectly valid point that the other team can still try and get the ball out, or knock me down. In fact, in the game where I used this tactic last, he got a Niggling on one of my Mummies :( Luckily, it regenned :D

I guess I would draw the line at using this tactic if it weren't done explicitly to win the game. For example, if I were ahead by 1 already and it was the end of the game, then I wouldn't do something like this. And I do believe in giving my opponent 1 turn to try and get some SPPs with a pass or something...
absolutely if i'm abouit to go 2-0 up i'll score that as quick as possible, it allows the opponent to get back in the game, without causing me too much worry, but also increases the chance of me scoring more from an already game winning position

The only coaches who whine 'play the game' and claim it's unfair are those with quick, agile teams that can score quickly. Of course they want you to score, then they can get the ball and run rings round you. It's a perfectly fair, valid & legitimate tactic to stall, how would you win games with Dwarf, Orc and Chaos teams otherwise?

Having said that, it would depend on whether the game is a friendly (great name for a blood bowl game ;) ) or a league/cup match. I would not hesitate to do this if it was an important game, but if it was just a friendly I might be inclined to try and score a bit quicker.

I'm with Thad. I like the Glory rule. Take your time getting down there, sure, control the clock that way. If you can score, do it. Let the game go on.

It may be a legit tactic, but it is a real bore. Any team can win games with it but then again, it really wasn't much of a game then, was it? Your Undead shouldn't need to resort this anyway.

It's a legit tactic. What's not legit is to cry "unfair" because you forgot to leave an elf by your endzone.

Any coach worth his salt knows the value of leaving just one player back just to tend the goal and discourage camping. It;s just plain smart. If you don't do that then it's really silly to whine that somebody has capitalized on your mistake.

The problem only really becomes a question when your turn becomes "my players mill about a bit. No actions. Your turn."
