Was an RPGer looking for something new. Had a nice fat B-day check and decided to try out this whacky football game. It's funny because were looking for "something light" something that didn't have too many rules, minis and expansions... That was 88 or 89 and we are still buying rules, minis, and expansions for it.

Mine's actually simmilar to DL's. Many moons ago, It was my birthday, and I had a nice wallet full of b-day money. A friend of mine and I were in a game store looking for new RPG stuff, when he spotted the 2nd edition boxed set. I loved the look of the box art, and the figures, and promptly bought it. We brought it home, played a game, and was hooked. Unfortunatily, it wasn't until 3rd edition that I could get anyone else interested in playing the game!

On a down note, I still most of the stuff from that second edition boxed set, but I am missing the rule books... bummer, too, becuse I remember there being some great fluff in there.

A friend of mine's brother used to buy wierd and wacky games, by the crate. A lot of them were short releases, or just plain awful. But there were a few gems. His brother never seemed to play too many of them (except for Car Wars.) He also used to download a bunch of stuff off Bulliten Boards (pre-internet) for his Commodore 64.

On Saturday afternoons, when we were still tired from Friday nights, we would go into the "game room" pull one or two of these "Strange" games down and try them out, or fire up the Commodore and shuffle through disks. Bloodbowl (styro board) was one of these discoveries. We set up a league at that time, with 4 people, but after a few months we moved on. It was revived a few times over the years, but never for very long. Nostalgia, in the last few years, has brought it to my attention again, as well as the discovery of the internet community.

Other games that we discoved in that "game room."

Battletech
Illuminati (as per previous post, in another thread, this one wasn't really discoved, but revived by my curiousity)
Speedball (Commodore)
Beach Head (Commodore)
Car Wars Card Game (different then the Car Wars game)
Nuclear Risk (this was just a ruleset using the regular 'Risk' board and pieces)
Supremacy (Board game, I loved this one.)

Probably several others that I forgot to mention that you guys would recognize. (His father was English and they went there, for part of every summer. They would pick up these games while they were there. They seem to be a lot easier to find in the UK than around here.)

There were also a boatload of games that I have blocked out because they were just dumb, and not very popular at all.

I've played RPG's since I was about 9 (Scary I know) and wanted to try something new. I saw it in my local hobby shop and picked it up, must be almost ten years ago. I played a few games against my Dad and loved the game! Then I introduced it to my friends and started a league.

Then, I did the same a few years later with a new group (college).

Most recently I started a league consisting of friends from both college and high school - the HBBL.

A couple of years ago a guy I had met while playing M:TG was starting a league and managed to get me and a friend of mine to join. Sadly, a few players wasn't playing the games they were supposed to and the league died.

Two months ago I sold my team... last month I decided to start playing again...
I haven't gotten my hands on a team yet, but I have played a few games of JavaBBowl.

The decisive factor for me were the ingenious flavour textes in the two hand-outs from 2nd edition. Something I miss in the present edition. :(

My friends and I were classic D&D nerds. But we always played with miniature representation. One day while shopping for Ral Partha models, my friend saw the Citadel rack. It was all over for him! he became a Citadel fanatic, and shortly after realized that these models were for specific games. He tried to buy a copy of Space Hulk, but the store was sold out. But here is other game called Blood Bowl...looks pretty cool!

Since then we've played three seasons of 2nd edition, 8 seasons of 3rd edition, none of 4th, and one of the Living Rulebook. We're begining our second LRB season at the end of July adn I am totally psyched! :D

My brother wanted a GW game, but couldn't afford to buy rulebooks, mini's etc for 40k for Fantasy in one go, so the games shop assistant showed him BB (2nd ed). He brought it home. I'd played a couple of 1st ed matches, so I gave him a game and was hooked.

Sadly, the gaming group I joined didn't play BB, so I stopped, but restarted last year when I got online, and the club held a league. No I'm re-hooked, and this time I'm not going anywhere.

When I was kid, there was this great little comic book store down the street from my house (probably 3-4 blocks). I used to get an allowance from my parents, something like $10 a week, to blow on comic books, candy, McDonald's (hehehe... nearest restaruant got rid of helium baloons b/c of my friends and I  ) etc. So, I was wasting time in the comic book store one day, picked through the comics, went through the various boxed wargames I alwasy drooled over, when...what's this? Football? Fantasy Football? With Mayhem? & Miniatures? And I was hooked. But, b/c the damn game cost more than I had on me, I couldn't get it. So I saved. And Saved. And when i had enough....the g@d damn store sold out of it. So I blew the wad of cash, never got the game, and that's the end of the story.............

Until I ran into a few websites a couple of years ago, saw GW was selling, bought the game and about 3 teams, and have been painting and playing PBeM ever since. And Table top when I get a chance. :smoking:

I saw it for sale for 25 bucks, version before the newest one out now (What version is that anyway) so I decided it's too good a chance to pass up. And it's always looked cool, ever since I saw it in an old ass issue of White Dwarf when it first came out. So I got it.

My brother wanted it, so he got it for his birthday and dragged me into playing it... by the end of the same day I'd already painted the human team and didn't look back.

He was the best player I've ever played for a long time, until I played Relborn at the BB

I saw a few friends playing BB. 6 players playing 3 matches on 3 boards was impressive enough to ask one of them to teach me playing the same night :-) That night back in 93 or 94 i got addicted :smoking:

A friend of mine tired of Magic got me into the game in august last year.

Since then I acquired almost all the teams (still missing the halflings and a few figs of each team), painted them (not to a great standard though), built my own pitch (and a Beach BB pitch too), visit the forum on a daily basis (execpt for the weekend as I have no access), play at least once a week but mostly twice.

So you can consider me kind of hooked!

Man ever since I got Blood Bowl a few months back, I've been itching for my friends to get their own sets. I know at least three people that are most likely going for it. Two of them are for sure. Seeing three Blood Bowl boards on at once will be cool as crap. Last time we were supposed to play Blood Bowl, my brother played against a friend of mine, a new recruit, and the game lasted probably about five hours. We haven't played way too much Blood Bowl, so having a non-veteran showing a newcomer how to play isn't the fastest thing ever. Still, the game ended on a great high, with a Human team making a long pass to the end zone on the last play, a pass that would make the game for the Humans, and an Orc lineman intercepting the pass, needing a six to catch, and rolling a six. Man, those Blood Bowl games can get hairy sometimes.
