In a breach of consistancy I actually like this idea of Toby's.
I would consider getting rid of the Horns though (I know, the helmet, but I always pictured all norse having horns on thier helmet anyway) and maybe replacing it with a +MA.
As it is, though, it is fairly play tested (as a mino.) It is a very small change (something that we have been railing on Toby for some time) and all around pretty balanced, I think.
I say (finally) nice one Toby.

I agree with Thorn on this one. I've always liked this idea, as it gives a more flavorful Norse Big Guy. I also like the idea of taking away the horns and adding MA, as it differentiates it more from the Mino.

He's supposed to have Big Guy ... typo on the Norse page.BlanchPrez wrote:So, if you changed Berzerker Rage to Frenzy, you'd be there.
Just outa curiosity, why does this Barbarian not have Big Guy?
Chris
But yeah you could replace Berserker Rage with Frenzy and get the right effect.
Note the player is only 100k and has BOTH Bonehead and Wild Animal. So you HAVE to go first with the player and roll his Bonehead roll. If he fails, he's done. If he succeeds, then he still has to block any adjacent opponents. Having the dual negative makes him a nice balanced Big Guy and I would have NO problem if GW dropped Ogre and Minotaur access to the Norse team and used Troll / Barbarian as it fits in pretty good with the fluff and history of the game more (early 3rd edition Norse had Snow Trolls on the team).
By the way ... I agree with replacing Berserker Rage with Frenzy, but just in case you wanted to know what it was:
Berserker Rage: This skill may only be used in conjunction with a Blitz action. The Berserker gains +1 ST, Break Tackle, and Multiple Block until the end of the turn. At the end of the turn, make an unmodified injury roll for this player for damage done to him from the overexertion. Use of this skill does not result in a turnover.

Interesting... I think I like Frenzy better, though. Actually, my only real complaint is that I'm not a big fan of adding a skill only available to one player.
I do like the barbarian big guy, though.

First of all I would not like to remove the Ogre from Norse or Human Teams. Ogres shoul play ONLY for Norse, Human and of course Ogre Teams in my opinion.
The Barbarian thing should give coaches a little Headache which Big Guy to choose, so that the number of Ogres is reduced by choice not force.
I also definitly want to keep the Horned Helmet. I like the fluff and, mor importantly, since I am the only one with playtesting experienxe on this Character ^^ he's already pretty difficult to include in your (Human) Teams game Plan, because of the Wild Animal Handicap.
Actually the Barbarian doesn't really need to be that much more different from the minotaur I think. Cutting Physical Trairs shuld make pretty unique later in the game don't u think?

I actually agree with this... at least, don't remove it from Human teams.Toby wrote:First of all I would not like to remove the Ogre from Norse or Human Teams.
Advancement wise, I would agree, he would be different. However, it was play wise I was thinking of, and what you had wasn't different enough in my opinion to make it a different Big Guy. Taking away the horns and giving him +MA makes him play differently than a Mino, which is always a good thing. Otherwise, my thought would be to just use a Thrudd figure and say he uses the Mino rules.Toby wrote:I also definitly want to keep the Horned Helmet. I like the fluff. Actually Toby ... and yes I see the ^^ ... you are not the only one. I've played with the Wild Animal/Bonehead Barbarian shown above for over 6 months on one of my teams and I've found the player to be a very reasonable Big Guy.Toby wrote:I also definitly want to keep the Horned Helmet. Either he's different like above (add Bonehead, lower price, lose Horns and Phy access, +1 MA) .. or like Dark Lord said, just say in the LRB that using a Thrud figure with Minotaur stas as a Barbarian Big Guy is allowed in tournaments/leagues.

Galak,
I was thinking of it as a shortcut to alow the minotaur on the Human Team, which fluffwise would never make it there.
The Minotaur is a established Character, so I consider it balanced and it could be introduced without bringing in something entirely new. Just a variation of existing elements.

I realy like to see the "mino" on Norse Teamse loose the ability to gain Phisical Traits. Playing against 5 players with pilling on and MB is enough but if one of them then has RSF thats TOO much.
And I even think that a diffrent Big Guy for the Humans = Babarian would be nice.
So yeah I actualy like the Idea a lot!

Not really ... actually its created some fun situations ... like where Bonehead actually saves the Barbarian from a 2D opponent's choice block. Thrud was incredibly dumb, fun, and a complete savage fighter in the comics (I have most of them). Wild Animal was probably the better choice for him anyway when they made his rules over Bonehead.BlanchPrez wrote:So, Galak, you don't find that having both Bonehead AND Wild Animal isn't too much?
Chris
So I could easily live with this for the Barbarian:
Barbarian:
6/5/2/8 Mighty Blow, Frenzy, Thick Skull, Bonehead, Wild Animal, BIG GUY G, S 100k
Then let the Norse team only have access to Barbarian and Troll. I know this is not what Toby wanted but since Minotaurs get Physical skills, a Barbarian that is exactly the same as a Mino but sans PHY just won't make the LRB ... its just not worth the type space ... sad but its true.
So with all the changes we suggested about Big Guys you'd end up with this:
Kroxigor: 2 teams (Lizardman, Lustrian)
Minotaur: 3 teams (Chaos, Chaos Dwarf, Chaos Pact)
Ogre: 4 teams (Human, Chaos, Old World, Chaos Pact)
Rat Ogre: 1 team (Skaven)
Treeman: 2 teams (Halfling, Wood Elf)
Troll: 6 teams (Chaos, Chaos Dwarf, Goblin, Orc, Norse, Chaos Pact)
Barbarian: 2 teams (Norse, Chaos Pact)
Nurgle Beast: 1 team (Rotters)
The above list works for me just fine for all the current and experimental teams in the works.
