Let me qulify that statement: Dwarf Runners CAN be passers. I usually develop one of mine into a passer in fact.
The fact that they also have to be the team's catchers and primary ball carriers is the part that sticks in my craw.

Lets just give each race the option of upgrading a single lineman to a kicker. Much better.

Sounds very good. We see very few kickers in our league, because the coaches don't want to give up their passers.

Just to promote my idea of "prestige positions" (which got only little attention):

Kickers would be easy to implement as a prestige position:
When a lineman gets kick (needs doubles) he becomes a member of prestige position kicker, bumping up his price by perhaps 10k and gives him access to kicking skills.

Problem solved - now I only need to convince you about the prestige position idea ;)

I like your prestige position idea. But you have to sacrifice one experience roll to have a double (kick) when Chet's kicker have already Kick, so seem not very cool to developp good kicker.

Chet, I think you've got a good first draft there, with what sounds like good balance, but can you try to steamline it in the same manner you're willing to critique the core rules? Actually, I'd like it if kicking could be made with a possibility for more rolls depending on distance, so, when the ball nears the goalposts, we get that kind of anxiousness Neo likes about PGFI.

Duly noted. I was working on a system that mimicked Passing a little more. I might still play around with that later.

Let me just add one more vote of support for the idea of exchanging one of a team's linemen for a kicker, rather than a passer. I, for one, like to have a backup passer, which is one reason why I haven't played with the kicking rules much.

I like the way you need to sacrifice a passer to make your kicking game work. It's just another little You Can't Have Everything bit. My dark elves have an awesome running game with 4 blitzers, but they don't get a big guy. You Can't Have Everything.

If you want to be able to kick, buy a kicker. If you really just occasionally have to boot the fieldgoal, then try it without the kick skill. It's still doable, especially with a TRR.

Its fine. Dirty player should be a reroll on the "ref spots" roll though.
Wow, you know something, I might actually agree with this idea, even though it makes fouling more difficult. It makes sense thematically (a dirty fouler tends to be a bit more blatant) and doesn't punish normal foulers.

HOWEVER, I'd still want SPP's back for fouling Cas. I think that could be the fix for it actually, the reason everyone has been whining elsewhere about how to allow it. But that would be a great trade-off for it for me.

So if we bring back spps for fouling cas, I'd support this rule whole-heartedly!
