i was invited to a friend's end of school (they were all graduating, i was ending my junior year) gaming party. this mostly consisted of nintendo64 and baldur's gate. however, there was a point in the evening that a couple people got out the board and played a game. i had heard about bloodbowl before, and was interested, so they let me watch and i made my skaven roster as they were playing. i then played a game w/ the commishoner of the league they had just started. however, he turned out to be a total jackass, improperly (i was a newbie, and he took advantage of the fact that i didnt know the specific situations that card can be used) using a special play card to prevent me from tying the score 1-1 at the end of the first half. we took a break and he then decided he didnt want to finish the game. after that, he decided he wasnt going to allow me into the league. nonetheless, i spent a good deal of the summer tracking down a copy of the game. 3rd edition had already begun to lose support by this time, so none of the game shops in my small hometown (salina, kansass) carried it. the owner of one of them had finally managed to locate one, with partially painted teams, that he was going to sell me. the owner of that copy ended up deciding he was going to keep it, but the store owner found another copy, unpainted and still in the sprues. i got it for $80 and was happier than a hog in slop, even though i knew i wouldnt likely find many other people to play w/, as everyone i knew was going off to college. the game has pretty much sat on the shelf for the last few years, i didnt even paint the human and orc teams until last summer. i got a HE team off ebay around the same time, and painted them up as well. last saturday, i finally got around to painting my minotaur. i've been quite active on fumbbl for some time now, took an extended break, and am getting back into it. but w/ the opening of a new GW store in the mall i live close to, i'm hopeful that i can find some "real" opponents. guess that means i have to really start collecting the mini's now...

I was looking at the game when they played a small tournament at a friend of mine. If I wanted to join in they asked. Sure, so they bought me a team and came up with Dark Elves. The first match I ever played was very nice cause the guy really took his time to explain how things worked. Next game however was against a fanatic guy. He called illegal procedures all over the place. You can imagine the result. 6-0 defeceit. Fortunatly the other player in the group are not like him. I avoid playing him and only play people who enjoy the game and know what playing a game is meant to be.

A mate (Tashton for those of you who remember him) was on the phone with the GW Trolls and when he finished he turned to me and said
' Ive got the game BB comming in the next few day, we have 2 months to learn the rules and paint 2 teams. Ive got us 2 tickets for Resurection.'
It was fun trying to learn how to play the game, i think our longest game lasted 4hr!
Got to admit though, it was well worthit. Hay, if i didnt got to res then i wouldnt have the trail of TBB fans i have now...like Thads.
GO HIPPY POWER!

I just played three different coaches in my local league by now. And the last one was the funniest to play with... maybe just 16 years old and having the same "play for fun" like me , ehm 40 years old. We played 3 hours with a lot smalltalk. The other coaches were , hm, more the serious coach. More like chess players... But OK to learn a lot.He called illegal procedures all over the place. .... I avoid playing him and only play people who enjoy the game and know what playing a game is meant to be.

A bunch of the guys I hang out with are hardcore into miniature-based games. They all have several Warhammer 40K armies apiece, at least half of a Fantasy Warhammer army, a boxful of odds and ends that they've been hacking, gluing, painting and sculpting for years, and about three tables full of custom-built terrain. I can't even play pencil and paper RPG's with them without having it turn into some sort of vaguely tactical simulation with models for everything, some sort of grid-based movement system and realistic distance measurement, et al. Two of them actually work for the local GWS stores and the rest of them just periodically leech off their employee discounts.
I, on the other hand, had always remained steadfastly against all things miniature, mostly because I'm a college student who is perennially broke. I'd prefer to eat for a week than own a new regiment of space marines, personally.
But then my friends went and spoiled everything by giving me a Bloodbowl team for my birthday. It seems more or less like a capable miniature-based game that I can play and enjoy without even going so far as to spend any money on- the rulebook is free on the internet and as long as I can accompany one of the aforementioned friends I'll never be short a board and dice to play with. I've even conscripted several of them to paint and possibly convert some of my models (that is, when/if we ever agree on what colors they should be and which of them should have bits chopped off and reattached at the mad whim of the modeller...
) So I'm rather looking forward to playing in the new league they've got going, provided someone else pays for the snacks.

I started...
I was originally a 40K player, but decided to join the local games club. When I went there, there were like 90 % Blood Bowl players, and I quickly got asked to play a game. I had seen the box at the retailer, and thought it looked absolutely absurd. But despite my opponent being an idiot who played my first ever team with a TR 150 or so team, I was hooked! I then sold off most of my 40K stuff, and put the other stuff in the attic.. now I own 2 1st Ed BB games, 1 2nd Ed and 1 3rd Ed, as well as around 40 Orc minis, + no less than 12 cheerleaders (also Orcs, damn they're ugly!).

I had played WH and WH40k, then I saw few older fellas playing game of football. It was facinaiting, so I stayed and watched, for like two hours.
After the game I asked many questions and got only answered "why don't you buy it and try?" Soo, I decided to buy it and got hooked.
First year of gaming was only 3rd edition without Death Zone.
After that, I have hooked many others.
