I think the appropriate way to handle star players for now would be that the list in each Spike! is definitive for that team, therefore for Chaos, Nurgle, Dark Elf and Undead they have those 10 (or 9 for DE) and only those, so no Sinbad, J Earlice etc for these teams. As some of these have effectively been replaced, it is reasonable. For all the other teams I would take all star players that can play for that team from any BB2016 release so far plus those from the CRP, including those that have not reappeared for one of the 4 but can play for a team that has not been Spike'd! Yet.

Over time some of these others will fall by the wayside, an we will get others to replace them. So until a human Spike! Or some other publication comes that lists 10 human star players in one place then you can carry on taking Zara and Karla.

We were going to do this, but DE having 9 and Undead having Throttlesnot made us go the other way. So, include everyone woo! Also this helps with coaches that have models for the CRP stars. Its a bummer when you cant use your toys. When GW comes up with a good list for each team, then we will re-evaluate.

Think that’s what we’re doing in our league, for now.

Works for me ‘cos I can’t take an Undead team with two Chainsaws - the Slann player probably isn’t so keen though.

Problem with having to wait is that it could be years, particularly if Games Workshop switch the format up again (as with Death Zone to Spike) which may slow it down (or, plus side, speed it up!) somehow.

Interesting point raised on the latest Both Down episode - the Undead Spike supplement included eight star players who can play for Necromantic. That means (if they’re working on ten per race) there’s only two left to cover in the Necromantic release - that’ll be a short book! One of the possibilities they discussed was the option to cover more than one race in a book, which would be good.

they've been removed from some teams (teams that have their own Spike issue), but it is a rather sticky issue whether that Means that they're gone from all teams or not.

Don't worry, there's no shortage on reprint capabilities for geedubs.

There will likely be some repetition in the book, but some of the players will have a bigger focus in the Necromantic Spike (pretty sure there are a couple of examples of this with Spike 1 & 3 - the Nurgle release was a little short on new star players.

To add a little intrigue, when looking at the BB new years blitz tournament the following Legacy star players appear. Obviously this is part of a tournament pack but it may be an indication of direction of travel with some of the teams without a Spike.

Think this was out around Spike 4 hence the inclusion of undead

Legacy Star Players
The following section is an addendum to the Teams Of Legend pdf. It provides a comprehensive list of classic Blood Bowl Star
Players who have graced the gridiron in days gone by.
Classic Citadel miniatures exist for all of the players listed here which are of course welcome at the event. They do however
also provide some wonderful conversion possibilities to create your own take on these classics to match your own teams.
Equally as important, these players give a good selection of Star Players for the teams listed in the Teams Of Legend pdf, some
of which might otherwise find themselves lacking for mercenary clout!

Bomber Dribblesnot - Goblin, Ogre, Orc, Chaos Renegade, Underworld Alliance
Frank N Stein - Human, Necromantic, Undead
Boomer - Dwarf, Norse
Flint Churnblade - Dwarf
Count Luthor Von Drakenborg - Necromantic, Undead, Vampire
Fungus The Loon - Goblin
Deeproot Strongbranch - Halfling
Headsplitter - Skaven
Hthark The Unstopable - Chaos Dwarf
Ramtut III - Khemri, Necromantic, Undead
Nobbla Blackwart - Chaos Dwarf, Goblin, Ogre, Underworld Alliance
Rashnak Backstabber- Chaos Dwarf
Puggy Baconbreath - Halfling, Human
Skitter Stab Stab - Skaven, Underworld Alliance
Rasta Tailspike - Skaven
Ugroth Bolgrot - Orc. Chaos Renegade

To date the only things reprinted in Spike! Journal are profiles. It will continue that way.

Ok I can agree with you the quality and care put into Blood Bowl is actually very good. I had similar specialist games in mind when mentioning reprints, which have been heavily criticized elsewhere (but have gotten a great increase in quality recently).

Hi Spubbbba,
just to be clear, in the actual current official rules, there are no "2 chanisaws" etc, because all of the LRB/CRP stars are not part of the current rules.

The NAF is trying to walk the fine line of combining the two rule sets when it comes to star players. AFAIK this is not just the NAF being stubborn, I believe (but I'm really not certain) that GW/JT-Y stated back when BB2016 was released that GW was (at that time) not explicitly removing all of the old stars.... I could remember very wrong here.

Either way, the sticky issue arises when an official list is published and someone (a star) is no longer on the list. Then the star is gone from that team. And it is not a big leap to think that the star has been deleted and won't be on the list for his other teams either. Especially when the gossip column of some of the Spike! magazines has commented on some of the missing stars.

Cheers
Martin

Okay I think I have listened to nearly every Blood bowl podcast over the past few weeks and none of them get the joke about the wizards spell but instead scratch their heads in confusion. Some of them are American so are excused the others are British but nerds.

Hint see 1990s England football manager.

I had to look at it again to notice that there was anything wrong with the spelling! I think I just assumed the spelling as opposed to actually reading it properly.

Note it is not a particularly funny joke or pun, but seeing as I am the only one who seemed to get it...

Part 1 was understood by many and is probably the easier one, but just in case. Van Hels Dance Macabre was a very important spell to any would be necromancer in Warhammer, allowing your units to move more or fight more, it was essential to actually get your slow moving troops anywhere useful on the battle field, hence the spells effect, for improve movement and agility, BUT it was also used to fight more hence the armour, because if it was strength that would be way to powerful.

Anyway part 2, Terry Vennables was a Tottenham and England manager of the early to mid nineties, for England they did reasonably well. As a sports themed game that pulls inspiration from American football and English football for its parody here they have taken the classic spell and renamed it after an English football manager. I warned you it wasn't that funny, but it was driving me nuts with all these comments either not understanding why they named it that way or stating it must be a mistake.
