I liked the idea of a slightly burnt griff so I went for the singed freebooter option. The top one. I would like to see them available as freebooters for those that feel the need to have them in a tournament, but I feel that there should be a way to only make them play as freebooters for the underdog.
being beardy and hiring the star player when your team is the better of the two anyway is not what I mean.
Really I hate stars but given the options, I would not like to see them vanish as they represent a valid part of the fluff.

I have to say that I have played with Stars a lot (under 3E). We decided to kick them out since the best Stars tended to win the games for the team - not the players that were trying to be developed.
So now we can freeboot them. OK this is largely only done for Finals. Does that make it OK? For me no. Letting Griff or Count Luthor lead the team to a final win is very cheesy - its so much better to win with the team you developed. IMO if you hire a star player as a freebooter, the player with the 11th most SPPs should leave the team - he would have started and isn't now since you've hired a Star. Would he be pi**ed - you bet he would.
So this will leave Stars completely out of the game... right?.... Wrong! Have an All Star game where the best players from the League play together with some of the Star Players. This way you keep the fluff but Griff, Count or Morg do not win the Championship.
Of course all Leagues can House Rule them in as either Permanent or Freebooters... let's leave the team development to the Coaches.

Freebooting seems cool, especially against a suprerior team.

I voted for the top one. Make them more attraktive for ALL teams.
