The other day the guys from MUDBATH came round and went against the Bearded'Snots in an inter club friendly. It was a great day (even if the Snots did lose) and there was 1 part of the day that realy sticks out as a part of BB history i will never forget......
My norse were playing MUDBATHS orc team (consisting of 1 ogre and 3 gobo'). The kick off table rolled a blitz for the orcs. The ogre picks up the gobo and lobs him.....he land next to the ball.....he picks up the ball.....he runs down field.....he scores! 1-0 to the orcs and it wasnt even turn 1 yet!
I dont know if this has ever happend to any 1 else in the past? I couldnt (and still cant) get my head around the fact that i was 1-0 down to an orc team and the game hadnt even started!
Thanks anyway to Valen and the guy's for comming up, and i hope that your miss's didnt make you sleep on the couch Gaviniepoo's

I thought you could only move during a blitz and afterward catch the ball, but move no more......
I'm quite possitive that this is impossible, unless you throw the goblin to the endzone and he catches the ball which drops in the endzone....
Enlightment needed....

Yeah I think that to the letter of the rules the results of the Kick Off table needs to be resolved before the ball actually lands and bounces. So technically in ablitz turn the ball is still in the air. But I suppose if both coaches were happy for the ball to be on the ground then it doesn't really matter.

It has been a few months since the game, so I am a bit fuzzy on the details, but the last game I played with my Halfling team, I think I was 2-0 up after a turn and a blitz kick off result. The flying halflings just couldn't help scoring past the hapless chaos dwarves..
not totally sure of my facts here, but it was soemthing like this.

The result of the kick-off table is resolved while the ball is in the air. Therefore it is impossible to score in turn zero.

You are right in this instance, but it is possible if the ball lands in the endzone.

Shanipoo,
I did get a place in the bed, and it was well needed to sleep of the beer and the feeling of personnel glory (as the eventual winner HOORAY

).
From reading this post it is corect, he could not pick up the ball, but I did not realise until yhis post, the same thing happenned when the mighty eagles played your woodie team, I got a blitz and then caught the ball at the start of ash's turn. This was an oversight on my behalf

, but I was in the middle of getting kicked in by a bunch of rats.
Sorry
Gaviniepoo.

Just to reiterate ... you got robbed plain and simple. The ball is in the air until after the kick off result is resolved. As a result the Goblin could have gotten a free catch roll after the blitz was finished when the ball landed, but there was no way he could have run it in for TD (unless the kickoff was going to land in the endzone).
Its a great story .... completely illegal ... but a good story.

Is that a house rule Shaniepoo? If not I have to agree with Galak that you was robbed. It's a cool theory though but that's all.

yep, in 2k1 you cant do that.
you can still score in 0 turn TD but only if the ball lands in the end-zone.
But in 3rd Ed i have scored in 0 turn (with skavens it was easy with a oneturner and a Blitz... But not anymore.

Oh 3ed! It was a feast to score before the game started, I had a human catcher with going for it and he score in every game, normal or flying style. But now, only gobbos and halflings fly, and orcs can have gobbos flying right from start with an ogre.
