We use this house rule, but would you like it?
Do you like this:
on a double 1, on a skill roll, you may choose a trait from another type
(orc can take jump up 8) )
You can loose a racial caracteristic (my Ogre is clever :?: )
You can take a Racial caracteristic (only for skavs and chaos of course  ) (This gunter hypnotised me chief! )

This would take us back to the monstrosities that 3rd edition (plus Big Guys) allowed: Jump Up, Piling On mummies, and plenty of ST5 guys with no negative skills. Far too unbalancing even if it will be rare.

Sorry - don't like it!

Personally I don´t like it.

I think, NOT being able to choose certain trait (you mentioned jump up for orcs) makes the game more interesting. I mean, there´s a point in not having upjumping black orcs after all. :) Besides the fact that it was a truely breathtaking thing to watch, it just isn´t ... um ... you know, orcish.

Ok, double ones are not exayctly probable on 2d6, but I just like the idea of some strict restrictions.

To my mind separating skills from traits was one of the best things that changed from 3rd to 4th edition.

Same goes for racials ...

I hate it, too unbalancing. I don't want to see mummies with jump up ever again.

Nope bad idea, don't like the idea off bouncing mummies coming right at ya!!!! But I dislike WA and take root way to negative to me, why don't mummies have nega-traits?????

this is 1/36.
But if you accept stars, i dont why you dont like this rule.
At least i like the idea of, removing it with a minimum of SPP like Marcus already said.

It is 1/36, but it is also a permenant roster addition, while a Star Player is a freebooted inconvenience. The mummy with Jump Up is pretty bad, but I just don't like the thought of Elves with Stand Firm and Goblins with Leader or Dauntless. Some teams just can't get certain skills, and only one team can get every skill. Changing that will alter the game balance, and I like it fine where it is.

Why not go the other direction and make the double 1 negative instead of a good thing? Are double 1 ever good in this game? Not that I can tell.

I'd suggest, if you have to make double 1s worth something, that player doesn't get his skill this time. This may be more fitting.

I like. Some ogre could be clever than just bonehead. A probability of 17% for a Legend Ogre but not have bonehead is quiet acceptable. But I prefer, to allow this only to a double 6, so when you have this on a mummy will choose Jump Up or blocking big guys with two dice ?

How hard would you bash my head if I took Snotngrots idea and said: "Instead of making ageing a separate roll, if you roll snake eyes you must roll in the ageing table"? Of course, it's still a souble so you still get any skill or an allowed trait.

Time to get a helmet... (And this is in no way flame baiting, just me laughing at myself).

I like the idea as double six means you can have +1 st or any skill/trait.
Losing racial traits may not be a good idea. The only drawback to treemen is take root, without it they would completely unbalance the Wood elf side, with my treeman in for the whole game my wood elf team has never lost. Without him their first half, there often arent many elves left by the time he comes in.... :(

The RC lost could be conditionned by having 51+ SPP (Pariah idea) and roll a double 6 at experience roll.

In my experience, 2MA is a bigger negative than take root. But i agree that racial caracteristics need to be somthing that you can never get rid of.
