Will base rings ever be official again?

Post by Colin »

OK, I know there are many people pron and con as far as base ring painting is concerned, but I think that there should be an official guide to use basically for converted models, obviously the official one don't need them. I would base them on 2ed but change a bit. I would not include a colour for linemen, as in 2ed they were the same colour as the base (ie in 2ed they used grey bases to match the astogranite pitch).

Throwers - white
Catchers - yellow
Blitzers - red
Blockers - green*
Runners - orange
Kicker - blue

Of course these colours are supposed to be bright hues and not dark shades. *Whether or not we need to include blockers is up for debate, as mostly BGs and BOBs are the ones in this category and are pretty obvious. Also I would indicate that certain teams that are made up of different races (CDs, chaos, lizards, etc) don't need base ring coding, as it's pretty obvious who's who.

If we could agree on this maybe it could be sent into fanatic to be published in BBmag as a guide to use on converted models.

i don't like the colors on the bases i think they take away from the appearance of the model. it's usually pretty easy to figure out who's who, and if ppl have do questions about who is who it's real easy to just ask.

I think if you have clearly identifiable mini's there should be no need, plus having yellow and blue and such can easily detract from the qulity of a painted mini. My thoughts anyway

I have a dream, that one day, all positions may walk upon the pitch equally, with their base rings painted with the appropriate colour.

I pray to Nuffle they won't; I think they look silly, and they shouldn't be necessary if you use models that are easily distinguised. If people want to use them, that's fine, but I won't like do so myself.

That said, I think a friend of mine might by now consider taking them; he used a Varag Ghoul Chewer as an Orc Blitzer at the NAF Open Dutch and was consistently asked whether it was a BOB :D

I think it takes away from the game when you have miniatures that aren't clearly identifiable by the model. If you have a team or 16 models, all the exact same model, the please upgrade! Buy a WFB blister pack and convert them, or something similar.

They will NEVER become official again. Why? Because of mutations. In GW leagues, you need a mini that actually has the mutation on the model. You can't represent that if you try to use "base rings"

I'd love to see an offical guide for those who'd like to use it. I wouldn't vote for them to be mandatory in my league, though.

Let me guess no one there had ever seen Varags star player card which specifically says Star Blitzer?

Even if u dont use the rules, u should know what they are, especially if your going to a tournament. Not to mention u should be familiar with the most famous, which would include Griff, Morg, Moron i mean moranian, and Varag.

Although im assuming Wesley is yanking my chain. Im basically saying that to anyone that was at the DO and could not recognize Varag, i dont use him but i like the mini and know who he is.
