The future for Blood Bowl

Posted at the NAF site too, for those TBBers who are not NAF members (yet!)

According to a seminar that NAF members were invited to, the following things will be coming out over the rest of this year (in order, as far as memory serves):

The Major Trophies - not life size, but slightly larger than the BB trophy that is kicking about now.

A remodelled elf team. Jervis noted that the rules are likely to be the same as high elves, explaining the current high elf models as a 'state team'. It's hard to explain, but the 3rd ed high elves wear grand armour and helmets as they are representing the elf nation as a whole, whereas the new models represent hardcore elves with a serious passion for BB. The new minis look pretty good, and are moving away from the typical block stance poses that most BB minis have.

A new Star player for human, dwarf and amazon, based *ahem* loosely on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Fluff wise, she was raised by dwarves then killed by vampires only to be resurrected and is now on a mission to kick ass... One of the more fun concepts shown!! I forget the actual name, but I am sure someone can fill me in.

New & reworked undead teams. The new Khemri star player, Ramtut III looks stunning. Jervis has planned that the Necromantic team is to become a "hammer horror" type team, and the werewolf big guy looks awesome, roughly Ogre sized! The new Flesh Golem (amusing spelled Gollum on the slideshow) looks like Frankenstein and is another fantastic mini - might even tempt me into undead. The new vampire and thrall models look quite nice, but probably wont be getting my £££.

Another new idea is to rehash the existing star players, releasing them seperately (with alternate heads so you can use them as the star or a 'normal' player) an also releasing them in duel packs - so the new Griff (sporting a pot belly as he's been in the game a long time now!) will be released in a box with Varag, including a scenic base so you can model them duelling! A great idea IMO.

Something else possibly on the horizon - a 15mm scale plastic TRAVEL BLOOD BOWL!!! Jervis is still trying to sell this to the bigwigs at GW, but if we get a big enough petition it is sure to sell well! For reference, Warmaster/Epic is 10mm scale, and BB is currently 28mm scale.

Quite importantly, Jervis announced that BB is moving away from the Warhammer world. That is to say, new figures won't simply be "Ogres that have wandered from the battlefield to the BB pitch" - hence the shape of the new minis.

Distant horizon projects also include releasing more Big Guys, a point illustrated by a nice troll although there are no plans for a troll team.

There are probably one or two things I have forgotten, but this is it by and large! The rest should be coming out as a movie downloadable from the GW BB site in a month or two's time, so you can see the rest then

Cyber punk look 8) 8) 8). I'm getting these. There was some discussion that they would make a 4th Elven team for them, but I'll just use them with High/Dark team lists if I can.

IIRC Zara the Slayer

I think the image wasn't to scale, so the werewolf was normal 28mm size, but definately on the beefy side.

The new "Buffy" model is "Zara the Slayer". Fantastic model, complete with a belt of stakes and stacked-heel boots. Great pose of her charging down the pitch.

I absolutely love the new Elves. Just what I've been looking for - especially since I've rediscovered my love of Woodelves. None of your poncy jumpsuits but hardcore elves with some great agressive, dynamic poses. They've returned to the old mowhawks and facemasks setup so they'll combine well with any 2nd ed Elf figures for "new" Elf or woodelf teams.

As a whole the new look for the miniatures is right up my street. They've gone back to what Jervis termed "Cyber Fantasy" style, moving away from Warhammer and closer to Speedball/Rollerball style minis, which I think can only be a good thing. The new models are all much more dynamically posed, most 3rd ed models looked at home in a Warhammer regiment, all standing identically, the new ones actually have a bit of action to them and will look great on the pitch.

As for the Griff vs Varag "Dogfight Double" - I'd love to do one with a pair of dice under Griff showing double skulls....

Now that I have bashed your art I feel I must explain.

The Khemri models should have been done in plastic.
Good idea and infact it was what I was banging my cup on the bars for. It's just too hard to glue them damn little bones together!

Do it for an...oh I don't know...OGRE team and you have a winner! Unless you charge $15 bucks an ogre that is! :P

How are the female orcs coming? :o
