The new Elf team

We heard how JJ described it. High Elves who actually like to hit and so on.
Translation: halfway between High and Dark Elves.

So I came up with this:

0-12 Linemen 6/3/4/8 (G,Ag) 70k
0-2 Catchers 7/3/4/8 Catch (G, Ag) 90k
0-2 Throwers 6/3/4/8 Pass (G,Ag,Pa) 90k
0-4 Blitzers 7/3/4/8 Block (G,St,Ag) 110k
Rerolls:50k

Seems to do the trick. Its just The Darkies with catchers instead of Witches or High Elves with Blitzers instead of Catchers (and a little slower)really.

Feel free to attack at will. I just love the figs.

I'll tell you this much -- I think the new rules call for them to be LESS like the Dark Elves, rather than more. IMO, there's already little enough reason to choose the High Elves over the Dark Elves.

Jervis stated they were the professional BB elves who were willing to actually fight.

AFAIK the only reason HE are unpopular is the godawful figures so maybe there won't be a new roster, but they did mention something about trial rules in BBMag8 and God knows the last thing we need is yet another speed team.

Thadrin -- tell me, what do you think are the pros and cons of the High Elves over the Dark Elves?

HE's can get 4 lion warriors with catch, General and Strength access and an 8 movement. A 4 agility, 3 strength catcher is a really big deal. These players can develop to be scoring machines or designed to shut down the opponent's passing game. HE's are a pretty solid team.

You mean, I think General and Agility access, since no Elf currently can get Strength skills without a doubles roll.

Can't a Dark Elf team do just the same with 4 Blitzers and 2 Witch Elves? All 3 ST 4 AG players.

(shakes head) Yes, General and Agility. Dark Elves don't start with catchers, though. Getting two skills on an 8 movment player is fairly easy. Give two of them Block and Pass Block and they've suddenly shut down an opponent's passing game. The extra movment really is a big deal. The only thing Dark Elves have got over them is the Witch Elves. With Frenzy being downgraded, the price difference in throwers and the movement advantage, I'd rather go with the HE's. Plus, they have a more useful Star Player, which does matter in some leagues.

High Elves: 4 catchers. 2 blitzers.
Dark Elves: 4 Blitzers. NO catchers. 2 Witch Elves.
Are those enough differences yet?
How about that people do choose HE over DE sometimes?

No? ah who cares?

If they want to use them as alternative HE then fine. I'm just trying to reflect what JJ actually told us.

i don't really understand the POINT of this new "elf" team. People already have 3 options for elf team races. why do we need another one to confuse people.

Well I play an elf team.

What kind of elf team?

Just "elves"

What the hell is that?

My point is that aside from the "evil tax" that the Dark Elf Throwers pay, there's not really much difference between the Dark Elf and High Elf teams. Most people I've talked to prefer Dark Elves because of 4 Blitzers and better minis.

I'd like High Elves to be more than just the goody-goody two shoes Dark Elves. Consider -- Dark Elves and High Elves are the only teams which share identical stats for two of their four positions (excepting the "evil tax".) Wouldn't it be more interesting if they were unique?

i like the idea of getting back to the 2e concept of elves, though this doesn't seem to do that as it becomes a 4th elf roster rather than a merger of the good sides...

in teh end, i just shake my head and wonder why another roster is needed at all... couldn't we just take the wfb names out of the high elf roster and replace them with appropriate position names and call it a day?

i've always felt that all elf flavors would be most appropriately represented by the woody roster anyway...

But that doesn't fall in line with Warhammer fluff, does it?

So we can alter the Elves and keep both rosters but the undead are pitched out? And I was all horrible for suggesting that sales was behind that move instead of game balance!

pariah, must you really turn every single discussion into a "me v the world" thing? i'm starting to think your paranoia sig is less and less funny.

as for my take on the elf roster, i disagree with milo. I think they're different enough. they are after all the SAME RACE genetically. The high elves and dark elves are (in elven terms) only a generation or so apart. So any differences between them would be societal (aka play style) as opposed to genetic (pure stat lines)

So the high elves put more emphasis on passing (st3, ma8 catchers and cheaper throwers) while the dark elves more on blocking (4 blitzers and witch elves), while their rank and file guys are identical except the dark elves have better unis...(of course I'm biased too, I have about 12000 points of warhammer dark elves.) :)

That may not be a huge difference, but it's enough. It's certainly no reason to add a 4th elven roster somewhere in between.

I thought I'd read that there wasn't going to be a new elf roster, just new figs. Can't remember where though so perhaps I made it up.

IMO there is no need for another elf team, HE and DE while slightly different are close enough anyway and where else could you take an AG 4 team.

I think the team looks more like a WE team but that's because I'm used to using 2ed elves as Woodelves. Don't mind what they are but please no more rosters, there's too many contraversial experimental teams as it is.

Well, wes, yeah, I'm pretty bitter about it. There is a thread going on right now where they are cracking jokes about JJ and Fanatic's ability to make balanced teams! Didn't I just have a knock down drag out fight with Milo over that? It irritates me!
