Some thoughts about our latest game.

Post by NightDragon »

While I have been convalesing in a wonderful building in Chelmsford for most of the last 6 months, I have been reading anything I could about BB.
I have been converted to the latest rules as a result, whereas before I was a 3rd ed man. However, I am not sure they create more parity between the teams, in fact probably less. This is because;
1.The old card system has been dropped, no more burst ball or invisible barrier.
2.The ageing rule applies to everyone, and I'm not suggesting it shouldn't.
3.Some long time top teams are getting better players eg, DE's 2 more blitzers, HE's more catchers, and them with all St 3!
4.Wizards are rarer.
5.Very significantly there are no more bonus MVP's for teams with much lower TR's.

Nevermind my fav team is DE, so I'm okay BUT if you want parity surely the best option is to set a limit on TR's, like a cap system from American Football.

The only thing I can say to this DD is that if you were making this argument over a year ago, I'd discuss the point. To me I've seen the results of enough LRB leagues over the last 2 years to know that your concerns don't link up to the real life results.

Not blowing off your concerns. I'm just saying that enough time has now passed to prove that they aren't really concerns anymore IMO.

The only team that I find that is too strong is Amazons, mostly because they are a new team and much stronger then many of the original rosters.

Not really a race when each real team (ie stunties don't count) can only have one is it?

He means (I think), that each team that can have Big Guys tends to take them. Because, those without tend to get beaten up badly by them. This has been my experiance so far. The only non-Big Guy having teams to not suffer from this are the undead/khemri ones. And Mummies are actualy better than BG's (no neg trait, and can use RR's).

As for the two old teams that got extra player spots, this was done for several reasons. 1. They lost their big guys 2. they lost their free rerolls 3. it gives the 8 positional players like most of the other teams.

I'm pleased for you Galak. Nice to speak to you again. I'll try not to make any more stupid comments in the future but you know me, they just keep on coming!

Argh .... DD, I did NOT think your comments where stupid. In fact 1 1/2 years ago with the BB2k1 rules where first released these topics were very hotly debated.

You completely misread what I was trying to tell you. I was not trying to (in the words of one of Deathwing's comments); "treat you like sh*t".

Let me try this another way:

1 1/2 years ago when the first rule set that would become the LRB rules where released MANY folks where VERY concerned about the exact SAME things that you expressed concern about. The fact that you are just now moving from 3rd to LRB means that the fact that you have concerns on these topics doesn't surprise me at all as you just fit the mould of where most coaches where 1 1/2 years ago.

So what I was trying to say was that after 1 1/2 years of several leagues using these rules we've (not ME ... we as in the BB Community) discovered that those topics of concern were not real issues.

IE ... your comments made prefect sense to me for the post. That's why I said I was not trying to be dismissive. Guess I needed to explain more.

Sorry boss, I know you don't poke fun, just not had a good time recently. And as usual you are right. However my DE's can't wait to get going on these new rules, they must have gained big time. Laters DD.

:o
I always assumed they got these 2 additional positional players because of a lack of competitiveness? Am I mistaken?

This is one that I'm considering to be true. I don't see this team ripping anyone else to shreds or blowing anyone out of the water but what I do see is a team that is consistently in the tops teams of any league. I don't know that I would jump up and scream "over powered!" but I do think that they may be a bit of a "no brainer." I think pretty much any dolt with a basic understanding of the rules could win with them. I've never seen an Amazon team in last place and I think that means something.
