New teams into existing leagues

Just out of curiosity after reading the team rating thread:
Is the handicap table good enough to introduce new teams into existing league or is it flat out frustrating? What concepts do you use in your leagues?

The current handicap table is extremely variable in the benefits it nets for the underdog. My league's experience so far is that once the team ratings get beyond a 50 point differential, it is rare that the underdog has a very good shot at doing wll in the game.

that's ok...its a sign that you shouldn't be playing teams that much bigger than you. I guess if you're desperate for an opponent, or if your league plays a fixed schedule, that would be different, but generally I try to play somebody about the same TR as me.
That's not a flaw in the game....if Bob's Pub team played the Elfheim Eagles, they wouldn't have much of a shot either.

Some people like the challenge. I think there's a competition between a few of our league's members to see who can be the first person to win a game in which they get 5 handicaps.

Don't get tempted to offer new teams something extra like money, Rerolls or anything.
By the time they reach the same TR level as the other teams, they usually are better by having more RR or something similar..
