Software Tools for Running a League ???

Post by Purrbear »

(Note that I do have Excel as well as a small amount of website space)

I'm looking for something to help me keep track of all the teams and other things for a small Leauge. Not an online league, but a bunch of friends. Is there anything out there to help me?

Try Christer's league manager. Don't know the link, maybe someone else can help with that.

I use it myself...but it relies on either JavaBB result files or the people in your league being able to fill out a match result sheet properly... :x Neither of which we do.

http://files.redversusblue.com/MatchRecord.doc is the match result form we use that I made. Pretty self-explanatory. Just get a hundred or so photocopied and fill one out for each match that's played, then enter the results into League Manager.

I have an excel league management sheet on my webpage ([www] button, then [roster tools] on my page). It's OK for managing local leagues with a lot of stats, but does not support putting teams online very well.

Online league

Post by RickA »

Hi,

well I'm the league programmer for BUBBLE and I've programmed the entire thing in PHP/mySQL. Reading initial teams from the GW roster, entering matches, updating teams etc. Also the possibility of fluff exists.

You're free to use the code, though I do have to say that is hasn't been seriously used yet, since the league is just starting. Hopefully I will know more at the end of the week.

RickA,

I'm not very well versed in terms of software. I don't know what "PHP/mySQL" is/means . . . but I can certainly wait a week before needing the software.

Feel free to email me directly at -- purrbear@sbcglobal.net

hmm, PHP is a free webserver programming language, and mySQL a free database driver. But if you don't know what they mean, I'm not sure if this thing is for you, because it will probably mean a lot of tweaking etc.

But I'll post here again in a week to tell you how it's going.

Thanks.

Anyone else know of any software to help keep track of the various teams in an off-line League?

I have a link to a cut down (its big enough for most purposes!) version of the Excel spreadsheet that Galak is using for the MBBL and MBBL2 on my web-site:

http://www.dn-allen.supanet.com/RABBL.html

See the section on the LHS entitled software and the League Management link (the spreadsheet was written to use the World Chess points system). There are links to Team Tracker and BB Roster (my updated version) for individual team management too.

I personally think Tim's league management tool is outstanding and I've taken the effort of porting over all the data I'd recorded using my own custom excel sheets.

it might be a bit intensive in terms of processing, but you can turn off the auto calculation when entering a load of data in one go.

Hi,

Excuse me if I piggyback this thread, I'm trying to make an Access database to store our league information as it seemed the ideal solution, but i'm a bit stuck.

What is the best way to store game info and link it back to the teams table, I was aiming for both teams, score and cas on one line but this does not seem to link back well.

Also I want to get it to calculate the team rankings then order by them when I run a league table report, any ideas on how to do this?

Hopefully someone out there brighter than me can help or point me to a web page that can :?:

Oh, and Tim's Excel sheet is fantastic for a local league, plenty of stats to check out :D

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

Take a look at "The Halfling Scribe" http://bloodbowl.bei.t-online.de/scribe/

Its a well constructed Excel program, suitable for up to 32 teams.

What do you mean MySql is a free database driver? Will the download create and run an instance of MySql on a server? I'm only interested cause I'm using a demo version of MSSQL 7 and realy don't want to have to rely on it.

I'm doing basically the same thing you are but in ASP.NET Still in the testing and playing but I have one working results page up. If it ends up as a quality set of pages I'll post the code for people to take/modify as they want.
