I was disappointed today when I read BBmag6 and read in the coaches comments section about Fumbled throws.

I personally agree with the coach that suggested that the only modifier for fumbling a throw should be tackle zones on the thrower. Otherwise for long bombs you either have an accurate throw or a fumble with no in between. I think it makes more sense and believe alot of leagues already have it as a house rule.

The response in the mag made it seem like there would never be a discussion on it. BBRC what's your opinion on this?

I know it sucks, but thats the way the rules work, and I'm good with it. In the NFL think of how many sacks come from the QB holding on too long for the reciever to get open, or to finish their rout. If Joey is under pressure and is praying Schroeder will get open, the odds increase that a defender will get a hand on the ball as Harrington releases. If Harrington is throwing a quick out to Stewart it is much less likely for a defender to have time to reach him and F'up his throw.

In my league, we play that only tackle zones count, because it indeed makes more sense.

Personally I have never questioned that that is the way the rule works. I have however, thought it odd that an AG 3 player with Accurate was better at the long passes then an AG 4 Elf. You do pay for that Stat in cost and skill access and it isn't as good.

However, I do not like the change to success rate of the Thrown team mate tactic. I have seen to many inaccurate passes by Big Guys still being landed and scoring. Heck, I can live with it in the game but it would really annoy for it to happen more often.

At the moment I have not been sold on the need to change this ruling. If the BBRC was to do so however, I probably would not be against the decision and would follow along. Now that is not something that can be said too often with me and the new rulings of the BBRC.

Do you play that only Tackle Zones count for Throw Team-Mate as well? Because if they do, then you obviously don't have enough TTM'ers in your league...

We actually play that you only fumble on a 1, but the tackle zone rule Zombie was talking about intrests me indeed!

Yeah, we used to play like you, that you only fumble on a natural one. We only changed the rule to add tackle zones about a year ago. It's a lot more strategic this way. It doesn't look like we'll be changing it again anytime soon.

We played "fumble on a 1" and after playing with the official rules for one season we went right back to it. We never did do the TZ only rule but I'm sure it would make more sense.

I play by the rules, even the aging ones at the moment. I don't see the throwing changes as particularly significant. The DE's are still the best!

ECBBL just changed so that range modifications effect fumbles - we used to play that they didn't.

The two main reasons were that in makes dedicated throwers better (accurate and strong arm are better skills) while helping to stop the long bomb punt downfield by a sarus.

ianwilliams - I'd always had the opinion that it was a stupid rule, having TZs affect the fumble roll (but still played by it), but now I can see a good reason for using it cos of your argument.

I'd be interested to see how people handle interceptions though...

we play the following:

declare pass, and roll

pass inaccurate/accurate -> declare interceptions
pass fumbled -> no interceptions allowed

IIRC you declare an interception before any pass dice are rolled, which seems daft to me, how the hell do you intercept a ball that never went over your head??! what do the rest of you think?

ECBBL does it "wrong" so that we roll for interceptions after the pass roll.

Removing the range modifiers on the fumble roll is a much better way of playing, anything that increases ball movement makes BB a better game. And if you didn't plan for the other team dumping the ball downfield, well that's your problem.
