Hey...just got my copy of Previews magazine which for those of you who don't know basically lists all new products coming out 2 months from now available to comic retailers.

In the games section was a new game from Hasbro known as Battleball.

The synopsis is as follows

"Fast-paced, easy to learn, and featuring over 20 highly detailed miniatures, Battleball is a futuristic battling football game for 2-4 players, ages 8 and up. Scheduled to ship in may2003"

The ad also features a picture from which I have guessed the following info. They display the miniatures which either come painted or are paintable because they have nice paintjobs. Interestingly enough the bases also appear to be color coded for all you base ring fanatics. The appear to be several different types of position players for each team including a "big guy" robot type large figure. The board is gridded, although it is not easy to tell whether it is square or hexed from the picture. It also appears to come with several different polyhedral dice.

It may not be actual 40k bloodbowl, but its probably the closest thing. It'll be interesting to see what the response will be from the adds among the BB community, and what the response is once the game is actually played.

What does everyone think?

Doesn't look quite like it. Found this on the web myself:

BATTLEBALL Game (Ages: 8 & up; Players: 2 teams of 2 or more players; Approximate Retail Price: $19.99; Available: June 2003)

Kids take on the role of coach in this futuristic, battling football game. In the BATTLEBALL game, kids strategize as they move their team down the field to be the first to score two touchdowns to win. The game comes complete with 22 different detailed miniatures (player pieces), each with different levels of speed and strength as determined by the color on the base of each player piece. At the start of a play, a player selects one of his miniatures, rolls the color die that matches the color of the base and moves the number of spaces on the die.

Land on a space adjacent to a player from the other team and a battle ensues. Players roll the die corresponding to the base of their miniature and the player who rolls the lowest number wins the tackle and stays in the game. The other player is injured and removed from the field and doesn't return until a touchdown is scored. First player to score two touchdowns wins!

Edit: and a small picture

Interesting. I wonder what is going on at GW legal right now. Not much they can do but I'm sure their panties are in a bunch.

Mayeb we'll get some cool minis out of this.

There is no link as of yet. I found that info in a Hasbro Press Release. But it looks like it should be out soon. If that's a good thing;)

Has anyone got any better pictures of the miniatures of that game? As the producer is the same that did HeroQuest etc. in ages past the models might be quite good conversion material for BB.

Yeah, if the figs look good, even if they're plastic (which they certainly are), at 20$ for 22 figs, it's quite a bargain!
