BG freebooters

It seems there are a number of posts dealing with the BG 'arms race' and how to deal with it, like limiting the teams certain BGs (like ogres) can play on, modifying neg traits, etc.
This seems like a simple solution, so don't know how well it would work (haven't play tested it myself as I have just come up with this idea). Why not just have BGs only able to be freebooted just like wizards and star players and get rid of the neg traits. BGs are considered as 'allies' anyway and can't use TRRs, so that wouldn't change. The only exception to this would be an all ogre team, they would have to have a neg trait (either bonehead or really stupid).
This idea would make it so that everyone wouldn't feel they need to buy a BG to compete as not every team will have one on there roster. Anyway, just an idea.

No thanks Torg ... I like the Big Guy rules just the way they are.
Also please note that the two teams playing for the championship of the MBBL right now:
http://www.midgardbb.com/MBBL/Season2/D ... akRats.htm
http://www.midgardbb.com/MBBL/Season2/TheExiles.htm
Neither team has played any of their games with a Big Guy this season and yet they are the top 2 teams.
In fact, FIVE!!! of the top six teams in the MBBL's 2nd season results don't have a Big Guy (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th)

So I'm just not seeing why they are an issue. The only reasons I think Ogres are being removed from Dwarf, Goblin, and Halfling teams an issue of fluff and diversity than anything even remotely dealing with game balance.
I might have missed the bigger picture, but I don't see the arms race or a needed to make them freebooters only from what I'm seeing.

I do not think that there is a "Big Guy Race", if any, it's an Ogre race because nearly every team can get them and they are the best BGs around.
I'm in favour of limiting Ogres to Humans only (maybe chaos too) and you will all the coaches equiped with Ogres see turning back to normal players bc most of them dislike WA or Trolls.

If the Blood Bowl world is seperate from the Warhammer world, what is this fluff of which you speak.
Big Guys are neat and fun, there's definately a place for them, they just shouldn't be a regular and common sight.

The MBBL's 3rd season ... the following teams will have Ogre access:
LRB:
Human, Orc, Chaos, Norse
Experimental:
Ogre (1-3), Chaos Pact, Lustrian, Old World
That's all out of 25 rosters begin tested (10 have Ogre access) and only 4 of the current official LRB teams.

Big Guys should just cost more (say an extra 50k, for example). That would make them rarer and less good.

I still have problems with Orcs having Ogre access. But this is a minority opinion.
I like fluff, I've chosen two trolls for my Goblin team...

I agree that Trolls should be seen on Orc and Goblin teams. They just go together like beer and chocolate. Mmmm, yummy.

I agree with you there. While it may be tactically advantageous to take 2 Ogres, I play the Goblins for the comic value more than anything else. I'm still waiting for the game where a Troll decides to snarf down a goblin

Galak said it all, so I'l just second him. Leave the big guys alone except dropping them from some rosters (NOT Orc or Chaos).

My chaos dwarf team had big problems with big guys, in the end I had to cave in and take a troll to stand up against them. The fact is without rolling a double to get dauntless, I had problems dealing with the front line of chaos and orc teams with st4 guys and an ogre in the middle.

Ogre removed from Human, Chaos, Dwarf
Humans get Mighty Zug permanent and unpeaked
Dwarfes get The Deathroller permanent and peaked
Chaos still have Minotaur or Troll

Have you tried it? I thought it sounded nasty when I heard it, too. I saw an old guy eating a Hershey's bar and drinking draft beer and commented onit. There's something in the chocolate that makes crappy beer palatable. I wouldn't eat it with the local beers around here because I son't have to but, in a pinch, it makes a good Band-Aid.
