Running a League.

Post by Rufio of Montrose »

Hi:
We are running a very long league of over 35 teams. Each team can play only four matches per month (one of the matches is obligatory against a sorted out team)- that is to give everyone a chance to play. The first problem we had that rookies were placed against teams of over 150 and I must say that the handicap table didn´t help much. So we decided to sort out the obligatory matches of over 150 on one side and under 150 on the other. The problem is that I forsee further trouble since there are teams over 200. I also must add that is not the same a high elf team 150 than a dwaf team 150 to be matched up to. Do you think we should do another cut on 200 or more? We are planning a "pro" league we should start it on 250 or less. Any idears about all of this?
Thanks

Try and divide the league so each team faces another not more than 40+ TR of difference. That could help.

Or try a swiss match-up. 1st plays 2nd, 3rd plays 4th ... and so on

When selecting the mandatory game for the month, rank all the teams in order of team rating, then put the first team up against the second, the 3rd against the 4th, etc. That way, everyone will be matched up against a fairly equal TR team.

That could be a good idear. The only problem I see with that is that some coaches with several teams could speculate with their TR or give the team a leave for the month to choose a better opponent as they can forsee the possible options. But I´ll give it a try and see what happens.

Well, you should have the 4 games per month and then have single elimination tournaments every 2-3 months. Every coach can enter ONE team from the league and the teams are seeded:

Best team plays the worst team, second best team plays the second worst team, third best team plays the third worst and so on, so the best seeded team has an easy ride to the finals.

Then you have a Toilet Bowl Tournament or something for the worst teams.
