Best case for minis?

Post by badash56 »

Hi,

What do you guys use to transport your teams? Right now I just have a cardboard box that is padded, and want something better. The GW case is nice, but it is a bit to expensive I think. Are there any other similiar products?

Thanks!

Use any kind of foam to protect your painted miniatures in their travels for gold and glory

Actually, this just came up on the NAF site recently. Pistol cases can be a really good and cheap alternative to the miniature cases we're all familiar with. Check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=22699

Personally, I'd want to cut new foam for it, but you can't beat these kinds of prices.

Hah, nice, it's probably better built than the Games Workshop one. It's the same thing without the 500% markup!

Well, the interior foam is different. But yeah, the plastic case really shouldn't cost all that much.

The foam is different, sure, but buying new foam and cutting it out is cheap, and more than makes up for the fifty bucks or so you'd be spending on the Games Workshop box. Well I don't know how much they cost but they ain't ten bucks. Also I don't know the dimensions of each, either. :D

I have a Sabol Designs Army Transport that I use, as well as a standard Games Workshop case.

The Army Transport is a bit overkill for Blood Bowl, though...I just one of my three (!) GW cases for that. One tray fits a whole team, Big Guy, rerolls, Apothecary, Assistant Coaches, Cheerleaders... :P

I made several of my own. Basically, I used pencil boxes filled with foam.

Also I have a couple made from wooden boxes I bought from places like Pier 1 or Hobby Lobby.

I've got a cardboard box somebody used to mail me stuff (not a standard cardboard box, but one of those boxes with a single lid closing to the fron of the box; difficult to explain... actually; quite easy to explain; it's the same kind of box you get from MO, only a bit larger (mostly higher)

Inside I have glued a tray of styrofoam (?; the white stuff made of small balls); in this tray I have cut round holes using a hot (!) paperclip bend in the right shape. I simply place the models in the tray (standing up) than I have a layer of the foam GW MO used to send along. This layer keeps them in place and protected. As long as nobody sits on my box or drops it into the water my minis are very safe! Cost; a few euros for a large sheet of styrofoam. Nothing more.

I use the old box of my motherboard. It is very sturdy cardboard with a plastic covering (so some protection from rain) with 'piramid' foam glued into it.

I use that bloody expensive GW case, but seeing as I didn't pay for it, I don't care about the cost

I use cheap metal toolcases from Praxis (that's a chain of DIY-stores in the Netherlands). They're cheap and tough and for a few euros you have enough foam to fill all of them with those handy GW-case-slots.

Those GW case slots seem very handy indeed; how do you make them?

Take 2 sheets of foam (about an inch thick), cut rectangular slots out of one of them and glue it to the other sheet with a hot glue gun and Bob's your uncle!

Well, Theo's my uncle, but you catch my drift...

Where do you get the foam, what kind of foam is it and what do you cut it with?
