Converting witch elves from the 2nd edition cheer leaders...

Post by Phreedh »

I'm undertaking a small conversion project at the moment, or well... I just started it. I need two witch elves to go with 2nd edition darkies and I didn't really think the 3rd edition elves fit in well so I thought "hey, let's chop up some 2nd edition cheerleaders instead!

I'm just wondering if this has been done already or if I'm onto something new here. Haven't seen anyone doing this, but then again I haven't been looking either. So far, I've just cut them up, trimmed off anything not belonging on the models and glued them together temporarily. Next I'll start with the pinning together and then it's greenstuff time.

Image

I cut the elf cheerleader along the waist, saving the jacket, then twisted her to face "forward" in a lunging position. Cut off her pompoms and will model hands with claws. I will also try to separate her head from her body and reposition it slightly, tiliting it upwards so she's in line with her body.

The dark elf cheerleader is a little harder to make dynamic. I've cut off the pompoms and also her whole left arm. I've cut off her head and repositioned it. In the end, it'll be looking more to her left. I'll try to make her lean a little to the left (at the moment she's leaning backwards due to a crappy slotta base :D) and sculpt a new left arm with claws, which she'll hold close to her body. A bit like the orc blitzers you know? The other arm will get a hand and claw, and will point downwards along her leg, in a slightly idle position. The whole idea with her is to have her in a "ready"-pose, like she's just about to pounce on some unfortunate halfling. I'll bring her left foot forward slightly and bend it at the knee (might need a cut and some green stuff to turn out good).

What do you think about the ideas? I'm dreading the sculpting ofcourse, it'll be the first major sculpting I attempt and will probably turn out shit, but I think I can pull it off with some luck. The hardest part was to cut them up and keep them intact. I was surprised at how easy and clean they came apart, really. I'm alot happier with the results so far than I thought I would be. Especially the lunging forward one has some great potential.

I like your idea! Looks great so far…are you planning on sculpting the hands or adding ones from other models (this would be easiest)? If you are adding hands/arms from other models, then any green-stuffing you do will be minimal and you shouldn’t have any problems. If you have never worked with green stuff before, I suggest practicing on an old less important model.

You can also find some great sculpting resources at

I've worked with green stuff quite alot and done some sculpting, but this will be mig biggest challenge so far. I won't use hands or arms from other models, I want to sculpt them myself.

I had the same idea, but felt that too much work would be involved so I didn't bother. I'm using the original daemonettes as witches instead

Good idea, a couple of friends of mine were looking to paint up 2nd edition Dark Elf teams but we couldn't think of any good models to use as Witch Elves. Obviously we didn't think to look so close to home.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

I'd never actually considered using cheerleaders as Witch Elves, but that's because I was already using some of the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Witch Elves, which I think fit perfectly with the 2E Dark Elves, and they look a hell of a lot nicer than the 3E Blood Bowl Witch Elves anyway. Unfortunately, from that GW store page, it doesn't look like they come by the blister anymore, which would make things more difficult I guess -- I remember walking into a GW brick-n-mortar, finding a blister that had the two I wanted for my team, and that was that.

At any rate, it looks like a wonderful idea, and it seems like you're doing a great job with it so far. I can't wait to see the finished models!

Why the heck do you want to sculpt claws on them?

@Lahatiel: You still can order them by using the indivudual part code, so i see no problems here

Oh, I knew that. I didn't say it was impossible anymore, just that it's certainly less convenient.

Not mutation claws, ofcourse... =D I meant small wolverine-like claws, like one of the 3rd edt WE runs around with. They need something to make them look more menacing.
